  • Patent number: 9143595
Abstract: An overall wireless broadcast system utilizing headphones that react in terms of light colors and light impulses when attuned to specific broadcast channels is provided. Such a system provides a unique performance capability in relation to the whims and selections of headphone wearers and listeners at an event with multiple attendees, ostensibly creating a spontaneous, continually changing visual result for spectators and participants alike. The headphones utilized for such a purpose are particularly adapted to allow for channel selections based upon different broadcast music possibilities (such as from a DJ or music device located in sufficiently close proximity for a headphone wearer to receive the broadcast signal to the degree that the broadcast music can be properly heard within the headphones themselves) such that the headphones themselves become modified in their own presentation based upon such a channel selection.

  • Patent number: 8886001
Abstract: An optical sensor formed from an optical waveguide having at least one core surrounded by a cladding and a large diameter generally D-shaped portion is disclosed. Axial or compressive strain across the D-shaped cross section may be determined by measuring the change in polarization or birefringence of the light output from the sensor. A layer responsive to a parameter may be disposed on a flat portion of the D-shaped portion of the sensor. The refractive index of the layer changes and/or the layer applies a strain on the sensor in response to the parameter. Changes in the refractive index of the layer alters the light output from the sensor, which is measured over time and correlated to the parameter.

  • Publication number: 20130283863
Abstract: Methods for making a preform for a large diameter optical waveguide such as a cane waveguide are disclosed. The method includes inserting a preform into a glass tube to serve as cladding that provides a thickened preform, simultaneously fusing and stretching the thickened preform, sectioning the stretched and still thickened preform and repeating the procedure if necessary to provide an even further thickened preform. The drawing apparatus can be configured to work with the preform disposed either horizontally or vertically and usually includes a graphite resistance furnace. Typically, the drawing apparatus is an upper portion of a draw tower used for drawing an optical fiber from an optical fiber preform. The draw tower includes a tractor pulling mechanism that can adjust to grip a wide range of diameters.

  • Patent number: 6436138
Abstract: A process for fabricating shaped material from demineralized bone particles includes the steps of applying a liquid slurry of demineralized bone particles to a support, removing excess liquid form the demineralized bone particles to provide a cohering shaped mass of demineralized bone particles, and warming the shaped mass of demineralized bone particles at a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined time period. The resultant bone mass exhibits enhanced tensile strength and minimal bone particle disassociation upon rehydration thereby improving product handling and application at the operative site.
