  • Publication number: 20050102774
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a toothbrush drive shaft having a shaft shank mounting a force transmission piece, in particular an eccentric crank piece, in a manner preventing relative rotation. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing such a drive shaft, whereby the force transmission piece and the shaft shank are separately produced and subsequently joined together. According to the invention, the force transmission piece is bent from a wire having a section thereof bent to form a helical wound body and to be pushed onto the shaft shank so it wraps around the shaft shank and sits thereon in a manner preventing relative rotation.

  • Publication number: 20030154567
Abstract: The present invention relates to an electric toothbrush having a handpiece, a bristle holder which is arranged on a head portion of the handpiece and is rotatable about an axis of rotation of the bristle holder, and a drive mechanism for the bristle holder, wherein the drive mechanism includes a motor which is arranged on the handpiece, and a transmission member which transfers a driving motion from the motor to the bristle holder. According to the invention, a drive rocker is provided as transmission member, and is arranged to rock in multiple axes and is driven by the motor such that it approximately traverses a double conical path. The connection between the drive rocker and the bristle holder is realised in jointed manner about an articulated axis that is parallel to the bristle holder's axis of rotation.

  • Publication number: 20030154568
Abstract: A brush head for a motor-driven toothbrush includes a multitude of bristles and a plate shaped bristle support to which the bristles are attached. The brush head is connectable to a motor-driven toothbrush for oscillatory rotation and translation. The bristle support is divided into several bristle support segments that are movable relative to each other. In particular, diametrically opposed bristle segments are tiltable on a shared tilt axis or on separate tilt axes arranged in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the brush head.

  • Patent number: 5850655
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electric toothbrush having a brush section and a drive shaft received in the brush section. The brush section includes a first bristle supporting structure operatively coupled to the shaft for motion about an axis essentially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the shaft, and a second bristle supporting structure operatively coupled to the shaft for substantially transverse oscillating motion of the entire second bristle supporting structure relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The first bristle supporting structure is generally cylindrically shaped and carries a plurality of bristle clusters.

  • Patent number: 5732433
Abstract: The invention is directed to an interproximal brush for an electric toothbrush which is coupled to the shaft driving the bristle supporting structure in an alternating motion in a manner independent of the coupling of the bristle supporting structure to the shaft. The interproximal brush performs a pivotal motion enabling additional cleaning in particular of interproximal spaces.

  • Patent number: 5577285
Abstract: A brush section (24) for an electric toothbrush in which a rotary shaft (34) is received which is adapted to perform an alternating or a rotary motion. Mounted on the brush section (24) is a rotary bristle supporting structure (38) having its axis of rotation (54) disposed at about right angles to the axis of rotation (52) of the shaft (34). The shaft (34) receives movably therein a rod (102) disposed approximately parallel and eccentrically. In an annular shoulder (61) of the bristle supporting structure (38), a pin (112) is held, extending approximately parallel and eccentrically to the axis of rotation (54). The pin (112) is passed through an eyelet (103) provided at the free end of the rod (102) and is movable therein. When the shaft (34) is caused to perform a rotary or alternating motion, this motion is transmitted to the bristle supporting structure (38) through the rod (102), the eyelet (103), and the pin (112).
