The engine includes a crankcase, and the transmission includes a transmission case coupled to the crankcase to define an engine-transmission assembly. The drive assembly includes a drive housing coupled to the engine-transmission assembly to define a drive chamber. The drive housing including an opening, and the drive assembly further includes a starter gear. The starter assembly is mounted to the drive housing and includes a nose portion that extends through the opening. The nose portion includes a pinion gear adapted to engage the starter gear.

Abstract: A primary locking tool for use with first and second primary drive assemblies. The first primary drive assembly includes a first drive sprocket and a first input sprocket a first distance from one another. The second primary drive assembly includes a second drive sprocket and a second input sprocket a second distance from one another. The second distance is greater than the first distance. The primary locking tool includes a first side portion having a drive jaw configured to engage the first and second drive sprockets. A second side portion includes an input jaw configured to engage the first and second input sprockets. The first and second side portions are coupled together for movement between a retracted position and an extended position that engage and resist rotation of the first drive sprocket and first input sprocket and the second drive sprocket and second input sprocket, respectively.

Abstract: A compensator assembly for a motorcycle engine including a hub and a compensator coupled to the engine crankshaft. The compensator is axially moveable along the crankshaft axis and a sprocket is supported for rotation with respect to the crankshaft. Cam surfaces on the compensator and the sprocket cooperate to transfer engine torque from the crankshaft to the sprocket. A spring biases the compensator into engagement with the sprocket and a resilient member is positioned between the hub and the compensator to resiliently limit axial movement of the compensator toward the hub. Torque pulses from the engine are damped by allowing relative rotation between the sprocket and the crankshaft.
