Patent number: 7266586Abstract: A method of presenting a unified view of two mailboxes, each mailbox associated with a client is described. The unified view allows the user to see all actions she/he performed on a message in one mailbox performed in all other unified mailboxes. One of the clients has both a high cost, e.g. wireless, communication channel and a low cost, e.g. synchronization, communication channel. When a message is received by a client from its respective mailbox without an identifier, an identifier is generated and a copy of the message is sent to the other mailboxes with the identifier. When the user performs actions on a message with a client, the identifier for the message and the action can be conveyed to the other clients in a message to the other mailboxes. The unified view can be selectably updated either over the high cost communication channel or the low cost communication channel. The presence of two communication channels enables the cost of performing the unification to be contained.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2005Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: Access Systems Americas, Inc.Inventors: Scott D. Lincke, Gregory M. Toto, Michael E. Golden

Patent number: 6993561Abstract: A unified view of mailboxes is presented. The unified view allows the user to see in one mailbox all actions performed in all mailboxes on a message. One of the clients of a mailbox has both a high cost and a low cost communication channel. When a message is received by a client from its respective mailbox without an identifier, an identifier is generated and a copy of the message is sent to the other mailboxes along with the identifier. When the user performs actions on a message on a client, the identifier for the message and the action is conveyed to the other clients in a message to the other mailboxes. The unified view can be selectably updated either over the high cost communication channel or the low cost communication channel. The presence of two communication channels enables management of the cost of performing the unification. The user can select options to control the unification process and the use of the high cost communication channel.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2002Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: PalmSource, Inc.Inventors: Scott D. Patent number: 6563793Abstract: A method and apparatus provide reserved bandwidth and QOS/COS virtual circuit connections in a network using both conventional and novel reservation protocols and frame formats. An apparatus according to the invention includes an enterprise control point that communicates with switches via a reserved signaling channel. The switches have been upgraded or replaced to include enhanced functionality. The enhanced switches detect packets that include requests for reserved connections according to existing reservation protocols such as RSVP and IEEE 802.1P/Q. Such detected packets are forwarded to the enterprise control point for processing via a reserved signaling channel. The enterprise control point identifies a path within the network that can satisfy the requested QOS/COS and reserves the requested resources all along the path from beginning to end.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1998Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Assignee: Enron Warpspeed Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael E. Method and apparatus for controlling bandwidth in a switched broadband multipoint/multimedia network
Patent number: 6452924Abstract: The present invention provides broadband multimedia communication over the standard circuit-switched public switched telephone network infrastructure (PSTN) and other physical or virtual circuit-switched infrastructures while simultaneously and transparently interoperating with the public Internet packet-switched infrastructure to effectively merge the capabilities of the two types of infrastructures into a seamless capability that can bring the benefits of using both types of existing switching infrastructures to large groups of users under the control of the same common and simple interface tools such as web browsers. The invention enables users to establish both packet-switched connections for sending or receiving content for which low-latency and unpredictable response times are not a problem (i.e.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1999Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: Enron Warpspeed Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael E. Patent number: 6400710Abstract: By accessing a hot button available from an internet site, a user can make a request for a switched broadband connection from a control system associated with a broadband network. The control system allocates resources for the broadband connection and coordinates a request with the web host. Accordingly, the web host is capable of providing bandwidth-differentiated services to users making such requests.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1999Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: Enron Warspeed Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael E. Patent number: 4897870Abstract: A pay telephone system which does not require the use of dedicated facilities in a telephone company and central office and which provides more efficient means for utilizing existing facilities to place public telephone calls. For only selected user telephone numbers, the telephone system places a set-up call to a call processor to request billing and other information needed to process the call at the local processor. The set-up call is then terminated and the user's call is automatically re-dialed into the switched telephone network from the telephone central office which serves the telephone presently being used. Numbers other than the selected numbers are called directly.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1987Date of Patent: January 30, 1990Assignee: Southlake Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Michael E. Golden

Patent number: 3943290Abstract: A semi-automatic telephone-answering system which connects a voice message to an incoming telephone line upon being activated. The incoming telephone line is connected to the system by an operator switchboard jack or key connector on a multiline telephone. A cueing signal switches a prerecorded message from a source thereof to the incoming telephone line at the beginning of the message. The cueing signal is synchronized with the message source so that switching means can only be activated at the beginning of the message. At the end of the message, a second cueing signal connects a music source or channel to the incoming telephone line. A primary signal indicates that the incoming telephone line has been waiting to be answered by the live operator for a predetermined time. A secondary signal is provided to indicate to the operator that a waiting call is being or has been answered live of a remote location. Thus, an effective urgency is imparted to the live operator as to the more pressing calls.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1974Date of Patent: March 9, 1976Inventor: Michael E. Golden
