  • Publication number: 20110299927
Abstract: A buoy for use in reducing the amplitude of waves in water and a system making use of plural buoys to create a floating breakwater. Each buoy is arranged to be constrained, e.g., connected to an anchor, and comprising a body e.g., a cylindrical member having at least one outwardly projecting fin, that is configured to be resonant and impedance matched. The buoy and anchoring approach allows for self-tuning to the chances in the wave spectrum due to the tidal or storm surge induced changes in the water depth. The body of the floating buoy is not limited to circular cylinder, and could be square, hexagonal, triangular, etc but must have at least one exterior mounted fin.

  • Publication number: 20090084296
Abstract: A wave-powered device having enhanced motion. The device including first, second, and third barges, with the second barge having a first reservoir and a second reservoir. The first and second reservoirs being coupled by a first passageway to permit a first fluid to selectively and passively move between the first and second reservoirs in a predetermined manner to increase the pitching moment of the second barge while the second barge pitches while floating over waves. A first coupling mechanism is coupled between the first and second barges to enable the first and second barges to move relative to one another, and a second coupling mechanism is coupled between the second and third barges to enable the second and third barges to move relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 4271668
Abstract: A counter-rotating turbine for converting energy from waves. A turbine is positioned in a pneumatic-type wave energy converter and converts the energy of alternating air flow above the internal water surface into mechanical energy. The turbine has counter-rotating runners and guide vanes located both upstream and downstream, and the alternating air flow in the energy converter excites the turbine runners after being turned by the guide vanes.

  • Patent number: 3957008
Abstract: Discrete bubbles of hydrogen and other gases are electrolytically created at line sources that are distributed transversely of a vehicle's centerline; the bubbles interact with the boundary layer next to the hull to reduce both skin friction and turbulent drag on the hull in the water.
