  • Patent number: 8876579
Abstract: A baffle controller for moving a baffle disposed within an HVAC outlet housing between an open position and a closed position to control airflow through an HVAC outlet in a vehicle includes a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuator that is controlled and actuated by an electrical signal. The SMA actuator rotates a main lever that rotates a valve plate. The valve plate is attached to the baffle such that the baffle rotates with the valve plate. The baffle controller may include a position biasing device that increases a position holding ability of the baffle controller, and a cut-off switch that interrupts the electrical signal to the SMA actuator to prevent over-rotating the baffle.

  • Patent number: 8480166
Abstract: An air duct for a vehicle includes a housing and a ductile member. The housing is formed from a first extrudable material having a first elastic modulus, and a second extrudable material having a second elastic modulus that is different from the first. The housing has a central longitudinal axis, defines a cavity therethrough along the axis, and is transitionable from a preform configuration in which the axis is substantially straight, to an installation configuration in which the axis is tortuous. The ductile member is embedded within the housing and is formed from a third extrudable material having a third elastic modulus that is greater than each of the first and second. The ductile member is bendable to transition the housing from the preform configuration to the installation configuration and is configured for retaining the housing in the installation configuration. A vehicle includes the air duct.

  • Patent number: 7614682
Abstract: A steering assembly and HVAC system, and method of operation, for a vehicle is disclosed. The system may comprise a steering column assembly including a steering column located within a cowl; a steering wheel assembly including a hub operatively engaging the steering column; and a steering assembly HVAC system including a steering column HVAC duct extending along the cowl and having an air outlet adjacent to the hub, whereby air will flow through the steering column HVAC duct and through the air outlet past the hub.
