  • Patent number: 8184307
Abstract: A book production method and system are disclosed. The method of book production allows an operator to input preferences for a multi-part workflow. The preferences can be communicated to a printer where the books are printed from a loaded plurality of book parts. There can be a deficient or excess number of loaded book parts in relation to that specified in a print job ticket. The user preferences can dictate how the book printer is to handle any deficiency or excess in the book parts. In such cases, the operator and the book printer can take appropriate action, and the book printer can indicate the status of the print job to the operator.

  • Patent number: 7758036
Abstract: A cover-driven book production method and system are disclosed. The method of cover-driven book production includes providing a plurality of book covers. The book covers can be identified using, for example, a scanner. A book block can then be retrieved from a book repository based on the identified cover. After performing raster image processing (RIP) of the book block, copies of the book block can be printed. Finishing can be accomplished by binding the printed book blocks to the book covers using an in-line binder or off-line binder.

  • Patent number: 7086792
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for compiling a set of images into a single document image file having a version key and a color plane associated therewith. The version key is employed in association with the images and color planes to cause a raster image processor to select, or ignore, color planes and thereby enable printing of a plurality of multi-versioned documents from a common image file set.

  • Publication number: 20050151981
Abstract: Methods and systems for maintaining color consistency in print-on-demand applications are disclosed. Initially, a plurality of default color settings applicable to a plurality of print-on-demand operations can be established. Thereafter, color consistency can be selectively imposed across a plurality of print-on-demand operations based on the plurality of default color settings applicable to the plurality of print-on-demand operations. Finally, a print-on-demand media product can be rendered in response to selectively imposing color consistency across the plurality of print-on-demand operations. An end-to-end print-on-demand workflow is therefore disclosed herein that describes how to create and print color books while maintaining color consistent at each step of in the work follow.
