    Abstract: A hand-operated hemispherical or spherical valve that provides an improved seal when dealing with fluids containing, or consisting entirely of, particulate matter is provided by the present invention. The valve utilizes an inflatable elastomeric valve seat that interacts with a primary closing member to permit or restrain the flow of fluids or particulate matter in a channel. The valve is opened and closed by turning a handwheel that is connected to a drive shaft. A sleeve having a cam is mounted on the drive shaft such that the cam engages a pressurized gas supply switch that inflates the inflatable elastomeric valve seat or seats when the hand wheel is turned to a closed position. Conversely, when the hand wheel is turned to an open position, a valve drive shaft, key and keyway function in conjunction with the drive shaft to turn the sleeve and disengage the cam such that the elastomeric valve seats are deflated prior to the primary closing member moving out of the closed position.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a valve assembly for granular and/or abrasive materials. The valves comprises a housing having an inlet and an outlet wherein the ratio of the outlet diameter to inlet diameter is no less than 1:1 for unrestricted flow of materials through the valve assembly. There is an annular recess in the housing adjacent the valve seat containing a resilient inflatable sealing ring, the ring being dimensioned so as to sealably contact the closure member when the closure member is in the first position upon inflation of the ring. A fluid inlet supplies a fluid under pressure to the sealing ring to inflate the sealing ring. A shaft channel and contains an external hub disposed on the outer end of the shaft which hub is dimensioned and arranged so as to engage the housing to restrict longitudinal movement of the shaft in the channel.

    Abstract: An assembly for recovering crystals from a slurry comprises a filtration unit including a rotatably mounted cylindrical filter, a slurry input for receiving slurry pressurized by a pump. The filtration unit has an outlet for discharging crystalline material separated from the slurry by the filtration unit. A first hopper connected to the filtration unit at the discharge outlet thereof is provided at a downstream side with a first valve unit which is in turn connected to a second hopper on a downstream side. A second valve unit is coupled to the second hopper at a downstream side thereof. Each of the valve units includes a rotatably mounted dome shaped valve member. The second hopper is provided with a vent extending to a gas storage tank. A conduit links the hoppers to one another for substantially equalizing pressure in the hoppers prior to an opening of the upstream valve during a discharge procedure.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuously dispensing particulate material utilizes a transfer vessel which may be placed at a location spaced below and apart from a dispensing vessel. Particulate material may be transferred from the transfer vessel to the dispensing vessel by aerating the particulate material and pneumatically transferring the material to the dispensing vessel through a suitable pipeline. Valving on the dispensing vessel and the transfer vessel prevents loss of pressure from the system during operation. The air supply for transfer and dispensing may be provided by one source. The dispensing unit may continuously dispense material through repeated cycles of transfer of material from the transfer vessel.
