  • Publication number: 20160237942
Abstract: A fuel control system for an engine is provided. The fuel control system includes a first sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of a pressure within a cylinder of the engine, a second sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of an amount of Nitrous Oxide (NOx), a fuel reformer, an Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) unit, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive the signals indicative of the pressure and the amount of NOx. The controller is configured to determine a Coefficient of Variation (COV) of Indicated Mean Effective Pressure (IMEP) and compare the COV of IMEP and the amount of NOx with a threshold combustion stability and a threshold amount of NOx respectively. The controller is further configured to regulate at least one of the fuel reformer and the AFR unit to control at least one of the combustion stability and the amount of NOx.

  • Publication number: 20080070263
Abstract: A method for diagnosing distinct subgroups of Alzheimer's Disease, the method comprising the steps of obtaining a sample of cerebrospinal fluid and determining the level of ubiquitin, the level of A?1-42, and the level of tau present in the sample. Based on the levels of each composition in the cerebrospinal fluid, the sample can be assigned to distinct subgroups, thereby allowing for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease or Alzheimer's Disease pathology in the patient from whom the sample was taken.

  • Patent number: 6817336
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a variable displacement internal combustion engine having dedicated actuators associated with a group or bank of cylinders pre-positions actuators associated with the deactivated cylinders based on operating conditions associated with the activated cylinders to reduce torque excursions during reactivation. In one embodiment, a variable cam timing mechanism associated with the deactivated bank of cylinders is pre-positioned to achieve the stead state air charge based on engine speed and manifold pressure of the activated cylinders.

  • Patent number: 6772724
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a variable displacement engine during cranking and starting period include a hybrid operating mode to allow intake/exhaust valve operation while preventing fuel delivery or spark, or both, to at least one subsequently deactivated cylinder or bank of cylinders during the cranking and starting period. The system and method provide advantages to starting the engine relative to either a variable displacement mode or a full activation mode.

  • Patent number: 6694948
Abstract: A vehicle reciprocating piston, variable displacement internal combustion engine arrangement 7 is provided. The arrangement 7 includes a first cylinder group 12. A second selectively deactivatable cylinder group 14 is also provided. A manifold 18 is provided which is exposed to at least one of the cylinder groups. A vacuum system 24 is powered by manifold 18. An engine controller 16 is cognizant of a vacuum level of the vacuum system 24.
