  • Publication number: 20150176900
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing a metal using a hybrid burner are described herein. The costs of melting and refining metal, such as iron, using standard burners is subject to fluctuation. The hybrid burners described herein are capable of burning both standard fuels as well as solid carbon-containing fuels, like coal. Through the use of a hybrid burner in either standard or modified electric arc furnaces, the costs for melting and refining an iron source can be reduced both through the costs of fluid hydrocarbon fuel sources and through the reduced or eliminated need for external carbon sources during refining.

  • Patent number: 8377372
Abstract: A jet of gas injected from a lance is fluidically deviated with a gas flowing in either the same or opposite direction as the jet of gas. The gas used to fluidically deviate the jet is the same as or different from the gas in the jet.

  • Patent number: 8333819
Abstract: Process and apparatus for melting raw material in an electric arc furnace using a flame of variable direction, the apparatus comprising a burner and a lance whereby the lance outlet opening and the burner outlet opening are not concentric and are located at a distance from one another, and whereby the lance axis forms an angle with the burner axis in the range from 10° to 40.
