    Abstract: A method is provided for the hydrometallurgical recovery of metal values from metal sources containing more than one metal such as antimony, lead, copper, zinc, bismuth, tin, cadmium and other metals by leaching the metal containing source with a ferric fluoborate/fluoboric acid solution to provide a metal containing leach solution. The leach solution is extracted with organic extractants, ion exchange resins and the like to provide a loaded extract and a raffinate which contains fluoboric acid produced in the extraction step. The fluoboric acid concentration is controlled (reduced) in the raffinate by adding to the raffinate a metal oxide of a metal in the raffinate to form an acid adjusted raffinate. The acid adjusted raffinate is then electrowon or otherwise treated to form the desired metal and to provide a ferric fluoborate solution which is recycled for leaching additional metal containing material.

    Abstract: A method is provided for the hydrometallurgical recovery of metal values from sources containing more than one metal of antimony, lead, copper, zinc, bismuth, tin, cadmium and other metals by leaching the metal containing source with a ferric fluoborate/fluroboric acid solution to provide a leachant metal containing solution. The leachant solution is contacted with specific organic extractants such as an organophosphoric acid ester, an alkyl salicylaldoxime and an amidobis(thiophosphoryl) compound in a series of extraction steps to separate metals based on the extractant used. The organic extractant solution is stripped of the extracted metal(s) and the metal(s) recovered. The remaining leach solution after extraction being either further treated to extract other metals or processed to provide metal values contained therein.

    Abstract: Machinable lead free brasses for potable water applications are provided wherein a combination of bismuth and selenium are substituted in the alloy for lead and the bismuth and selenium are added to the alloy in the form of an additive product comprising bismuth selenide. A method of making the brasses which meets environmental and safety regulations is also provided. The bismuth selenide is preferably made by sintering particles of bismuth and selenium in a Bi/Se weight ratio of about 1.8 or greater and fusing the sinter.

    Abstract: A hose assembly (10) is of the type for carrying high pressure fluids therethrough. The hose assembly (10) includes a tubular member (11) and a pair of coupling members (20). The tubular member (11) includes an inner liner (12) of a fluorocarbon polymer. Yarns (15) fabricated from fibers (17), including glass fibers and aramid fibers (19), are braided together about the exterior of the inner liner (12) to form a braided layer (13). The assembly (10) further includes an outer fluorocarbon coating (14) dispersed throughout the braided layer (13) to prevent kinking or permanent deformation in the inner liner (12), in addition to preventing the crushing of the yarns (15) when the ends are crimped to receive the coupling members (20). A conductive strip (16) is formed on the inner liner (12) for dissipating electrical charges which may accumulate in the inner liner (12).

    Abstract: A heat resistive sleeve (10) is capable of surrounding conduits, hoses and the like. The heat resistive sleeve (10) includes one outer layer (20) and, if necessary, a plurality of inner layers (12, 30, 38), all of which are fabricated of interwoven fiberglass yarns. To increase the insulating properties of the fiberglass, fibers of a second outer fiberglass yarn (24) are braided together to form a solid braid (26) having a radial thickness (T2) greater than the radial thickness (T1) of a first outer fiberglass yarn (22). A second inner layer (30) includes a first untextured fiberglass yarn (32) interwoven with a third textured fiberglass yarn (34), the textured fiberglass yarn (34) being less dense and having a radial thickness (T3) greater than the radial thickness (T1) of the untextured fiberglass yarn creating additional spaces (36) which further increase the thermal insulation of the heat resistive sleeve (10).
