    Abstract: A safety valve for use in a horizontal christmas tree is disclosed which comprises a valve element rotatably mounted in a valve body for opening and closing a flow path through the valve body. A seal is provided between the valve body and valve element and defines a sealing surface at which all points are spaced equidistant from the valve body rotational axis. A hydraulic actuator is also provided for rotating the valve element.
