    Abstract: A low density roast and ground coffee product which yields 20% more brewed coffee than and of equal quality to conventional roast and ground coffee product. Modifications to conventional roasting and grinding operations result in a faster roasting operation and a finer grind which together with a higher percentage of intermediate quality coffee and a darker roast high quality coffee results in the low density coffee product.

    Abstract: The flavor and aroma of decaffeinated roasted and ground coffee is significantly improved employing a process whereby caffeine-containing green coffee material is initially contacted with water in a washing step at conditions which will not extract a significant amount of soluble materials from the coffee material. The aqueous solution obtained from the initial processing step is subsequently contacted with a decaffeinated coffee material.
