  • Publication number: 20040235552
Abstract: A system of linked gaming machines is disclosed herein. Upon a certain triggering event occurring, eligible gaming machines simultaneously receive a signal for initiating a free game bonus round. The players that have been playing the gaming machines will then play a certain number of free games in a competition with other players involved in the same bonus round. The player awarded the most credits or points from the play of the free games is awarded a special jackpot. Other jackpot games (e.g., split jackpot) are also envisioned. In another embodiment, a jackpot award or any award to the players may be granted based on the outcomes of the free games. In one embodiment, the base awards to the player(s) for the bonus round are multiplied by a multiplier that may be based on the number of players, based on the players' rankings, based on other outcomes of the bonus round, or a fixed or random multiplier.

  • Patent number: 6776713
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a game involves the player playing against a gaming machine's computer such that a victory by the player in the game grants an award to the player. In one particular game, the player and computer compete to build a structure created from objects. The player and computer alternate turns. The player chooses from a number of icons, each representing a hidden object, with the hope of choosing the tallest object, and the computer randomly selects an object. The player attempts to build a structure above a winning height before the computer's structure reaches the winning height. Along the way, the player is given various options, such as the option to change positions with the computer, the option to buy an object, or other types of options.

  • Publication number: 20040142737
Abstract: In one embodiment, a gaming machine carries out a main game, such as a spinning reel type game, either using physical reels or simulated reels on a video screen. A special combination of symbols activates a video bonus game. The bonus game comprises a matrix of hidden values in the form of icons that may be selected by the player. The values that may be selected are displayed to the player in an order unrelated to the arrangement of the hidden values in the matrix so the player sees what she can possibly win. The player then makes her selections to win the hidden awards. In one embodiment, the player only makes a predetermined number of selections. In another embodiment, the player makes selections until an end-of-game value is selected. After each selection, the displayed values may change.

  • Publication number: 20040137981
Abstract: In one embodiment of the game, a matrix of symbols is displayed on a display screen. The matrix may be a 3×3 array of symbols or any other configuration. Each symbol has a selectable direction indicator that points to another symbol or out of the matrix. The direction indicators are randomly selected. An award is based on paths created by the direction indicators. The award may be determined by the path from an entrance into the matrix to an exit out of the matrix, or the award may be based on the patterns formed by the paths. The game may be a main game or a bonus game and can be displayed on a display screen or by motor-driven reels.

  • Publication number: 20040132528
Abstract: In a gaming machine, unlocking a first lock enables an attendant to open the front door of the gaming machine, allowing access to the internal circuitry of the gaming machine but not allowing access to the money in the gaming machine. Unlocking a second lock enables an attendant to open a second access barrier to gain access to the money. Since access to the internal circuitry is separated from access to the money, better security control is provided.

  • Publication number: 20040092302
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a video gaming machine displays an array of symbols, and an award is granted based on any winning symbol combinations across activated pay lines. As a secondary game, after the initial display of the symbols, the player may designate one species of symbol in the array. Then, one of the symbols in the array is selected at random by the gaming machine. If the symbol designated by the player is the one selected by the machine, the player wins a special award. The secondary game may be activated pursuant to any of a variety of events, or activated after each game. The player may designate the symbol species by means of a touch screen or any other type of controller.

  • Publication number: 20040092299
Abstract: In one embodiment, a video slot machine displays an array of symbols, and awards are granted to the player based on certain combinations of symbols across a pay line or in a pattern. While the reels appear to be spinning, or at any time prior to the final symbol display, the player may designate one or more of the positions in the array to be a special symbol. This special symbol may be a wild card, a high value symbol, a scatter symbol, a multiplier, a bonus game trigger symbol, or any other type of special symbol. The virtual reels stop rotating, and all other symbols in the array are then displayed along with the special symbol in the designated position. The player is then granted an award based upon any winning symbol combinations as affected by the special symbol. In another embodiment, the position of the special symbol in the array is selected automatically by the gaming machine.

  • Publication number: 20040092300
Abstract: In one embodiment, a certain number of special games are granted to a player, or the special games are only enabled for a certain time period. The special games may be free bonus games or paid games. At the end (or beginning) of each special game, at least one position in the array of symbols is designated as a special symbol. The special symbol may be a wild card, a scatter symbol, a multiplier, or any other special symbol. The special symbol selected for a particular game is carried over into the next special game, so the special symbols are accumulated and remain in their positions in the array for the series of special games. Awards, if any, are granted after each game based on the use of the special symbol(s) in combination with other symbols across one or more pay lines. The special symbol position in the array (or the special symbol type) may be selected by the gaming machine or by the player. Other embodiments are disclosed where special symbols are designated by the gaming machine or the player.

  • Publication number: 20040023716
Abstract: In one embodiment, on an additional display unit for each gaming machine in a system of gaming machines, a jackpot game is played after each main game on an associated gaming machine. A jackpot control unit, common to all gaming machines, predetermines the jackpot game outcome for each gaming machine. A jackpot win is determined by the jackpot control unit based on a triggering event. The main game and jackpot game may be the spinning of actual or virtual reels, where the resulting symbol combinations determine the award to the player. Because the display for the jackpot symbols may be situated in a separate housing, it can be connected to any gaming machine without modifying the machine.
