Publication number: 20160137458Abstract: A transportation system includes a track structure supporting one or more tracks along which cabins may travel. The track structure (2) contains the means of propulsion and extends the full length of travel of the cabins (1) and supports and guides the passenger carrying cabin(s). The means of propulsion is generated by connecting the passenger carrying cabin(s) to a rod (32) that successively engages a number of pairs of pinch rollers (41, 42) which are each driven by motors (42) located along the track (2). The pinch rollers are arranged such as to provide the necessary clamping force such that they propel the rod in the direction of travel without slip. The transportation system is suitable for installation both internal and external to building structures and enables cabins to be transported vertically, horizontally and around curved geometries.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2014Publication date: May 19, 2016Inventor: Michael GODWIN

Patent number: 7822709Abstract: A building events status network for monitoring building events such as the reporting of equipment failure and visits by third parties to a plurality of buildings replaces the traditional paper logs by providing at least one site terminal with a unique address at each building to be monitored. The terminals are connected at least to a remote web server at which a database is maintained of entry records such as fault logs, times of individuals using the site terminals to report a fault or record their access to a building in the network and status information concerning the nature and outcome of the event concerning the buildings. Preferably the internet is used as the network infrastructure and each terminal is provided with browser software that permits the user to access only the remote web server.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2001Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Conssero PLCInventor: Adrian Michael Godwin

Publication number: 20060163008Abstract: A gearless, ropeless elevator according to the present invention includes a universal independent linear electromagnetic retarder as an essential component that will ensure safe and comfortable transit for passengers going up and down. By design sufficient number of independent retarders are securely fixed to the independent passenger cabin such that under free fall conditions due to power failure for example the gross weight of the gearless, ropeless elevator assembly will be counter balanced by the force generated in the retarders so permitting it to descend at a slow speed until resting on its buffers. The independent universal retarder unit which can also function as a motor includes not only a fail safe brake capable of slowing and stopping a gearless, ropeless elevator assembly but also a UPS unit capable of supplying the retarder with sufficient power for a few seconds to permit the independent cabin and passengers to slowdown comfortably from high speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2005Publication date: July 27, 2006Inventor: Michael Godwin

Patent number: 6860706Abstract: A method of verifying proper coupling of an implement assembly to a lift arm assembly by an operator who is located in a cab of a work machine is disclosed. The work machine includes the implement assembly and the lift arm assembly. The implement assembly includes a hinge plate. The hinge plate has a first coupling aperture extending therethrough. The lift arm assembly has a lift arm and a cylinder. The cylinder is secured to the lift arm. The method includes the step of actuating the cylinder so as to move a pin from a first pin position to a second pin position. The pin is spaced apart from the first coupling aperture when the pin is located in the first pin position. The pin extends through the first coupling aperture when the pin is located in the second pin position.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: March 1, 2005Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: D. Patent number: 6830126Abstract: A rapid escape system for buildings including at least one ride unit for a corresponding at least one building occupant to exit via an elevator-type shaft or tube or down the outside of a building at a rapid, predetermined and substantially constant descent velocity. The system includes a lightweight tuned open frame AC linear electromagnetic power generator with one active half fixed to a backpack/ride on which a person or other object/load can be securely fastened, the other active half fixed top to bottom to a tall structure. When coupled magnetically via the air gap and moving they form a tuned AC permanent magnet linear electro-magnetic generator.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2003Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Inventor: Michael Godwin

The system includes a lightweight tuned open frame AC linear electromagnetic power generator with one active half fixed to a backpack/ride on which a person or other object/load can be securely fastened, the other active half fixed top to bottom to a tall structure. When coupled magnetically via the air gap and moving they form a tuned AC permanent magnet linear electro-magnetic generator. When the loaded ride unit is dispatched from any height under gravity the resonant Q factor of the generator permits the AC current to rapidly rise, thus inducing the retarding force generated in the air gap necessary to equal the weight of the descending backpack/ride plus load and stabilizing descent velocity to design speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2003Publication date: September 23, 2004Inventor: Michael Godwin
