Patent number: 11621742Abstract: Systems and methods for automated network cabling integrity monitoring are provided. In one embodiment a system manager for a network that includes a network switch coupled to patching equipment comprises: at least one processor configured to execute software, the software comprising a network integrity monitor. The network integrity monitor controls a cable diagnostic test function to obtain a fault-distance measurement for a port of the switch. The network integrity monitor correlates the fault-distance measurement with network cable length information associated with the switch port to identify one or both of a network cable segment associated with the fault-distance measurement and a fault location. The cable length information is retrieved from a database. The network integrity monitor produces an output identifying of one or both of the network cable segment associated with the fault-distance measurement and the fault location to be displayed on a display device.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2019Date of Patent: April 4, 2023Assignee: CommScope Technologies LLCInventors: Michael Gregory German, Marta Beatriz Ripa, Chichuan Lin, Shawn M. Patent number: 11450993Abstract: One embodiment is directed to detecting that a cable has been connected to a port of patching equipment and detecting that the cable is no longer connected to said port. In response to detecting that the cable is no longer connected, information associated with fixed cabling coupled to said port that is captured by a cable tester is downloaded to a controller. The downloaded information is associated with said port and the downloaded information and association information is locally stored at the controller. The locally stored information can then be used to create and/or populate objects in a database. Another embodiment is directed to including a storage device and a wireless interface in patching equipment or other equipment such as an outlet or consolidation point for use in writing information to the storage device and reading information from the storage device via the wireless interface. Other embodiments are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2021Date of Patent: September 20, 2022Assignee: CommScope Technologies LLCInventors: Michael Gregory German, Ryan E. Enge, Andrew P. Patent number: 6522737Abstract: A system and method for ascertaining the status of a telecommunications patching system and communicating that status to a remote location. Each of the patch panels in a telecommunications closet contains connector ports that receive the ends of patch cords. Tracing interface modules mount to the patch panels and provide a sensor for the connector ports. The sensor detects whenever a patch cord is connected to, or removed from, a connector port. A computer controller is connected to the various sensors in each rack to monitor changes to the patch cord interconnections. The computer controllers can be joined together in a network to monitor the status of the connector ports. The data on the network contains the full status of the telecommunications closet. The network can be accessed via a telecommunications network via a modem from a remote computer.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1999Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventors: Stephen Craig Bartolutti, Golam Mabud Choudhury, Michael Gregory German, Daniel Warren Macauley, Lawrence Marc Paul
