Patent number: 11782623Abstract: A partition function is transferred from a source system to a multi-tenant target environment. The transfer is executed from a source system to a multi-tenant target environment. Physical and logical input/output (I/O) configuration settings of a partition image are separated on the source system, moving logical I/O configuration settings from the source system to a remote multi-tenant target environment. A dedicated target system of the remote multi-tenant target environment is selected. Physical information about hardware and connections of the dedicated target system are added to the logical I/O configuration settings. The logical I/O configuration settings combined with the physical information in the target system are activated. An operating system with the activated logical I/O configuration is started such that the partition function is transferred.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2020Date of Patent: October 10, 2023Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Michael Groetzner, Norman Christopher Böwing, Juliet Candee

Patent number: 8453162Abstract: Method, parser, messaging system, computer program and computer program product for handling context information associated with a message flow in a messaging system, the message flow having processing nodes for processing the message. A request is received at the parser to perform a first operation associated with the message. An indication of the context information to retrieve from a context store is obtained. This context information is for use by at least one of the processing nodes in the message flow for determining how to process the message. The context information is retrieved from the context store and a logical representation of the context information is then created in a format accessible by at least one processing node in the message flow.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2008Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Groetzner, Harry Hoff

Patent number: 8365182Abstract: A method of autonomous provisioning of resources of a computer system, wherein: performance-critical workload of the computer system is monitored; workload suffering is detected based on comparing the performance-critical workload with defined values of performance-critical workload goals; types of missing resources are determined; additional resources available for activation are determined; the additional resources are activated, and a notification of the activation is generated for being sent to a system provider for automated billing of the added capacity, and a computer device, data processing program, computer program product, and computer data signal therefor.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2007Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Groetzner, Horst Sinram, Stefan Wirag

Patent number: 8104040Abstract: A method for automatically adding capacity to a computer for a workload is provided. Metric information is received, defined in a policy, about a workload running on a computer. Capacity information for the computer is retrieved and is serialized in a serialized list in accordance with the policy. A demand for the workload is received and is a request for additional capacity of the computer. The demand for the workload is analyzed to determine whether the demand is characterized as a speed or a general purpose demand. Speed demand includes an increase in a speed level for the computer, and general purpose demand includes an increase in a speed level and/or a number of processors for the computer. An appropriate capacity is determined, from the serialized list, to add to the computer for the workload based on the analysis. The appropriate capacity of the computer is activated for the workload.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2007Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Adrian Alvarez-Diez, Michael Groetzner, Ruediger Schulze, Horst Sinram

Patent number: 6704753Abstract: A method of storage management in document databases wherein residence times are assigned to individual documents on entry to the database. Two different residence times are preferably assigned to the document. The first residence time (residual time) is defined as the time span between storage of the document in the document management system (DMS) and the time at which the document may be relocated for the first time. The second residence time (keep time) is defined as the time span between recall of the relocated document to the DMS and time at which it may be relocated again. A further feature of the invention subsists in the fact that the second residence time is only stipulated if the document is recalled to the first storage means following relocation. Assignment of the residual and keep time is effected on entry of the document into the DMS. Residence times can be assigned by the user or also by a program.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1999Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Groetzner, Udo Guenthner, Heinrich Streckeisen
