  • Patent number: 11969988
Abstract: An oscillating roller system for a beverage can decorator is driven back and forth by a cam follower. A cam body having a cam is mounted to a frame of the inker system. Three oscillating cam roller assemblies are positioned about the cam body. Rotation of the cam oscillates the cam followers for each one of the oscillating rollers. Bearings of the oscillating roller assemblies includes an inlet gallery and outlet gallery for a closed loop lubrication system. The rollers are water cooled.

  • Publication number: 20240126437
Abstract: A storage system is configured to accept subsequent versions of write data on a given track to multiple respective slots of shared global memory. A track index table presents metadata at the track level, and can hold up to N slots of data. All slots of shared global memory holding data owed to the source volume and to snapshots of the source volume are bound to the track in the track index table. Each time a write occurs on a track, the track index table is used to determine when a write pending slot for the track is owed to a snapshot copy of the storage volume. When a write pending slot contains data that is owed to a snapshot copy of the source volume, a new slot is allocated to the write IO and bound to the track in the track index table.

  • Publication number: 20240104193
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for direct assignment of physical devices to confidential virtual machines (VMs). At a first guest privilege context of a guest partition, a direct assignment of a physical device associated with a host computer system to the guest partition is identified. The guest partition includes the first guest privilege context and a second guest privilege context, which is restricted from accessing memory associated with the first guest privilege context. The guest partition corresponds to a confidential VM, such that a memory region associated with the guest partition is inaccessible to a host operating system. It is determined, based on a policy, that the physical device is allowed to be directly assigned to the guest partition. Communication between the physical device and the second guest privilege context is permitted, such as by exposing the physical device on a virtual bus and/or forwarding an interrupt.

  • Patent number: 11926145
Abstract: An over-varnish unit and mandrel pre-spin system for a can decorator, especially for beverage can bodies, can have a mandrel pre-spin belt that is outside of the over-varnish unit housing. The position of the can infeed on the mandrel wheel and the print point is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20230333058
Abstract: A method of detecting defects or deterioration in the sidewalls of can bodies during production of the can bodies within a can bodymaker. Each can body is formed by pushing a cup, mounted on a punch of a reciprocating ram, through one or more dies contained within a tool pack of the bodymaker. The method comprises: obtaining output signals from one or more eddy current sensors arranged around the ram axis outside of the tool pack and adjacent to an exit end of the tool pack; processing the output signals to detect passage of open ends of can body sidewalls past the sensor(s) and thereby determine measures of the heights or thicknesses of can body sidewalls; and analysing the determined measures to identify can body sidewall defects or deterioration.

  • Publication number: 20230182193
Abstract: A can bodymaker for producing can bodies from cups. The can bodymaker comprises a ram configured to reciprocate along an axis, a punch mounted on the ram; a tool pack comprising a cradle and a plurality of tools located in the cradle for drawing and ironing a cup mounted on the punch during a forward stroke of the ram. The can bodymaker further comprises a bolster plate fixed to the can bodymaker, an adapter plate fixed to the bolster plate and a stripper assembly fixed to the adapter plate for removing a can body from the punch during a return stroke of the ram and clamping mechanism for biasing the tools against a front face of the adapter late. The can bodymaker further comprises one or more load cells located in or on the adapter plate and configured to generate an output signal or signals indicative of an axial force exerted on the tools by the cup passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 11298934
Abstract: A print registration system for a beverage can decorator includes an axial registration system and a circumferential registration system. Each registration system is independent and includes a slider that is translated by a motorized lead screw. Axial movement of the axial registration slider is transmitted to axial adjustment of the plate cylinder by a mechanical connection between the axial registration slider and the plate cylinder shaft. Translation of the circumferential registration slider is transmitted to a helical gear mounted to the plate cylinder shaft such that the plate cylinder shaft is rotated by the movement of the circumferential registration slider upon engagement of the helical driven gear with a stationary drive gear.

  • Patent number: 5842389
Abstract: An adaptable nail set is disclosed to include a common nail set, to which is welded a perpendicularly oriented shaft. At the end of the shaft remote from the nail set is attached, by a screw-thread or snap-in construction, a remote handle for use by the carpenter. The remote handle provides the function of separating the carpenter's hand from the nail set, in order to protect the carpenter from the point of contact between a hammer and the nail set. In this regard, the shaft is designed to present an elongation approximately equal to the size of a standard hammer, considered to be the length to offer the best protection for the carpenter. The weld connection between the shaft and the nail set functions to withstand the forces applied by the hammer to the nail set, when in use, in order to avoid the direct and twisting forces that would be applied to another type of connection between the shaft and the nail set.
