  • Publication number: 20040171288
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector with one or more latch receptacles, and a cover with one or more latches, in which the latch receptacles and latches are polarized so that a latch engages with a latch receptacle when the connector and the cover are aligned in a pre-determined orientation. In certain embodiments, the electrical connector has at least two latch receptacles, one of them being a first width and others being of a second, different width, and there are corresponding latches also of two different widths. In certain embodiments, the latches are in pairs, and for example, at least one pair of latches and receptacles of the same width will be on opposite sides of the cover. The pairs differ in width so that the cover is “polarized” to fit in only one orientation.

  • Patent number: 6739885
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a pin header 10 that can be mounted in an opening 4 in an electrically conductive case 2. The pin header 10 includes a molded pin header housing 12 that can be used in unfiltered as well as filtered and shielded versions. The filtered and shielded versions include a ground shield 20 or 50 that includes segmented cantilever tangs 26 or 56 extending along peripheral edges of the shield member 20 or 50. These tangs 26 or 58 mechanically grip the electrically conductive case 2 to establish ground continuity. One version of the ground shield 20 can be mounted on a printed circuit board to which filter capacitors 40 are soldered.

  • Patent number: 6607406
Abstract: A nonpolarized electrical connector assembly (10) includes a receptacle connector subassembly (20) and a plug connector subassembly (100). The receptacle connector subassembly (20) can be mated with an electronic component subassembly, such as an airbag inflation initiator or squib (2), and includes a cylindrical housing (22) with a central plug passage (38). Receptacle contacts (50A, 50B and 50C) are positioned at different arcuate locations in this passage (38) with resilient cantilever beams (56) of different lengths so that contact points (58) on the beams (56) are at different axial locations in the passage (38). A plug connector subassembly has axially spaced cylindrical plug contacts (102A, 102B) and (102C) on a plug post (106) that is inserted into the passage (38) so that the plug connector subassembly (100) can be positioned at any angular position relative to the mating axis between the two connector subassemblies.

  • Patent number: 6296533
Abstract: An electrical receptacle contact is provided having contact beams which are asymmetrically opposed, defining a terminal receiving section therebetween. Asymmetrically opposed contact beams may have various widths to provide an appropriate spring force for a selected plating material, while ensuring that the receptacle contact maintains the same overall dimensional shape as contacts made with a different plating material. Although allowing for variable spring rate in limited dimensioned contact, susceptibility of fracture of the contact of the present invention during forming is minimized.
