    Abstract: A communication system employs a HARQ-type retransmission scheme. Bits (701) received on a first transmission are stored and combined with the bits received on later transmissions thereby increasing the likelihood of a correct decoding on later transmissions. Similarly the bits received on the second or later transmissions are stored for combining with subsequent received bits. Specific information needed at the receiver is identified and requested from the transmitter. More particularly, information that is retransmitted in a second or later transmission in the HARQ scheme is determined from a reliability of individual constituent bits in the mother codeword or from an overall reliability of the received codeword. Based on these reliability metrics, the most unreliable set of the constituent bits are requested or, in the alternative, a specific number of constituent bits is requested.

    Abstract: A resilient leg as part of an attachment for the wheel of a motor vehicle. The leg is provided with a piston rod (4) that has a piston (5) attached to it, that travels into and out of a housing (1), that is attached at its outer end to the vehicle's chassis, and that is maintained in radial alignment by two separated bearings. The piston divides the interior of the housing into two fluid-charged chambers (9 & 10). The object is to ensure satisfactory transmission of moments of force from the piston rod to the housing in a leg that is light in weight. The piston rod accordingly extends through, and is maintained in radial alignment at, both ends of the leg.

    Abstract: A hydraulic dashpot with a cylinder (1) full of shock-absorbing fluid, with a piston (3) mounted on the end of piston rod (2), traveling back and forth inside the cylinder, separating the cylinder into two compartments (4 & 5), and provided with ports and shock-absorption valves, and with a variable bypass system accommodated in an axial bore (13) in the piston rod provided with lateral radial openings (11 & 26) extending through the rod. The object is to allow fixed independent establishment of the cross-section of the bypass system available for the fluid to flow through as the piston rod travels in the direction associated with the suction phase and of the cross-section of the bypass system available for the fluid to flow through as the piston rod travels in the direction associated with the compression phase.

    Abstract: A hydropneumatic shock absorber has an outer tube, an inner tube inside the outer tube, forming therewith an outer gas/liquid chamber and itself internally forming an inner chamber and a piston rod inside the inner tube. A body of liquid fills the entire inner chamber and partially fills the outer chamber. A piston on the rod subdivides the inner chamber into an upper and a lower compartment. A foot valve is located at the lower tube ends. A rigid centering washer has an outer periphery engaged against the upper end of the outer tube and an axially extending ridge engaged directly radially against the upper end of the inner tube. A flexible annular outer lip on the washer engages radially against the upper end of the inner tube to bear flexibly to permit limited fluid flow from the upper compartment to the outer chamber while blocking opposite flow. A flexible annular inner seal underneath the ridge on the washer engages radially inwardly against the piston rod.
