Patent number: 8069931Abstract: A drill bit string has an internal steering module for measurement while drilling. A chassis is inserted into a modified drill collar from the axial end, rather than through the side. The chassis has external pockets machined into it from its outer diameter. The size of the longitudinally milled slots in the chassis is determined by the size of the components. The mud flow path is positioned off-center because of the component slots. The geometric shape of the flow path through the tool is shaped to optimize the flow area and maintain a wall thickness that can withstand the mud pressure. The wall thickness surrounding the flow area is proportional to the maximum hydrostatic pressure and the circulation pressure.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2009Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Phoenix Technology Services LPInventors: John Michael Hooks, Daniel Seutter

Patent number: 7826834Abstract: In a method for downloading software from a mobile network operator to a mobile phone user, the downloaded software can be new network services or user specified applications software or user specified information, written as Java classes capable of running on a Java Virtual Machine. All the Java classes can be continuously broadcast at a relatively modest data rate. In an enhanced mode a list of services available for downloading is broadcast over the network more frequently then the actual services themselves. The user then selects which service he wants, and only that one is downloaded. Payment can be 100 on a subscription or pay-per-use basis. The method could also be adapted to work with one of the new digital broadcasting platforms such as DAB or DVB as a means for delivering the Java classes.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2001Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Roke Manor Research LimitedInventors: Michael Hook, Walter Tuttlebee, John Cundall

Patent number: 7702915Abstract: To gain visiting access to a wireless local area network (W-LAN), the operator of which administers a visitor authentication, authorization and accounting (VAAA) server, a user requesting such access must have a valid cellular mobile account, a portable computing device with a browser and a valid W-LAN card from another operation that administers a home authentication, authorization and accounting (HAAA) server. The user, inputs, via the VAAA server, identity information that enables the HAAA to issue a personal identification number (PIN) which is encoded and forwarded to the user's mobile telephone. This encoded PIN is transferred to the browser to authenticate the requested visiting access, and the costs of such access are billed to the user's cellular mobile account. The requested access is achieved via the user's browser. The user may employ the browser to convey the identity information, to the VAAA via the W-LAN, or via the mobile telephone.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Assignee: Roke Manor Research LimitedInventors: Stephen McCann, Robert Hancock, John May, Michael Hook

Publication number: 20030208392Abstract: The present invention relates to a master resource planning systems and related methods for optimizing resource plans across multiple networks. In particular, the present invention optimizes constrained resources across multiple networks and produces an optimized plan to allocate and coordinate the obtaining, shipping and procurement of limited resources based upon user-defined strategies and supplier/shipper preferences Aspects of the disclosure include creating planning data and planning rules. Planning data contains information regarding constrained resources in the multiple networks. Planning rules are based on user-defined strategies. Additional aspects include generating a plan based on the planning data and the planning rules and revising the plan in real-time. The generated plan optimally allocates the constrained resources according to the user-defined strategies.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2002Publication date: November 6, 2003Applicant: Manugistics, Inc.Inventors: Konanur C. Shekar, Salil Joshi, Michael Hooks, Ingrid Bongartz, Robert MacMillan, Chris Greamo

Publication number: 20020037708Abstract: An access authentication system is provided for authenticating access for visitors to a wireless local area network (W-LAN), the operator of which administers a visitor authentication, authorisation and accounting (VAAA) server. A user requesting visiting access to the W-LAN, is required to have a valid cellular mobile account, a portable computing device with a browser and a valid W-LAN card from another operator that administers a home authentication, authorisation and accounting (HAAA) server. The user, on requesting visiting access to the W-LAN, inputs, via the VAAA server, identity information that enables the HAAA to issue a personal identification number (PIN) which is encoded and forwarded, preferably by way of a short message service (SMS), to the user's mobile telephone.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2001Publication date: March 28, 2002Applicant: Roke Manor Research LimitedInventors: Stephen McCann, Robert Hancock, John May, Michael Hook
