Publication number: 20080050259Abstract: A Moineau stator for a downhole drilling motor and a method for fabricating the stator are disclosed. The stator includes an internal helical cavity component fabricated from an improved elastomeric material formulated to provide both high resilience and good processability. For example, in one exemplary embodiment the elastomer material includes rheological parameters ML in a range from about 1.0 to about 4.0 lb·in and MH in a range from about 75 to about 110 lb·in according to ASTM D2084 at 380 degrees F. Stators in accordance with this invention may exhibit improved efficiency (and may thus provide improved torque output) as compared with conventional stators without substantially increasing manufacturing costs.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Applicant: Dyna-Drill Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Michael Hooper

Publication number: 20060257347Abstract: Babassuamadopropalkonium chloride is quaternary ammonium compounds obtained from natural babassu oil that contains a high level of lauric acid, and it has been used as mild conditioner. We found that babassuamadopropalkonium chloride has strong and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity especially with bisabolol. Bisabolol is the active component of Chamomile, one of the most used medical plants, and has been used as anti-irritant. We found that there is a synergistic effect of bisabolol on hinokitiol, when combined with ethylhexylglycerin or caprylyl glycol. This synergistic effect of composition of bisabolol and ethylhexylglycerin can reduce the required amount of hinokitiol, which if used in high amount can be unstable by more than 100 times.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2005Publication date: November 16, 2006Inventors: Joo Kim, Michael Hooper

Patent number: 7096976Abstract: An integrated drilling and evaluation system includes a drill string having an interior portion and a drill bit, carried on a lower end, that includes ports for communicating fluid between the interior portion of the drill string and an uncased well bore. A packer, carried above the drill bit, is operable for sealingly closing a well annulus, A tester valve inserted in the drill string is operable for sealingly closing the drill string. The packer and tester valve are cooperatively operable for isolating a subsurface zone of interest. The system includes monitoring means inserted in the drill string for monitoring a parameter of well fluid from the subsurface zone. Once the subsurface zone is isolated, well fluid is communicated into the interior portion of the drill string through the ports of the drill bit, received by the monitoring means, and tested without removing the drill string form the well.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2002Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: William C. Paluch, Alois Jerabek, Paul D. Ringgenberg, Michael Hooper

Publication number: 20050283930Abstract: A metal brush useful in pipeline pigs, for example, in magnetic flux leakage tools or cleaning tools, a method of making the brush and pipeline pig comprising the brush. The brush has a metal bristle holder and a plurality of metal bristles, the ends of which are held in the bristle holder by being welded to each other and to the bristle holder by fusion welding. The bristle holder may be a tube, or a large metal structure with a hole or cavity. In one embodiment, the brush has a flat bottom surface, and is therefore particularly useful in MFL tools. The brush is not made with solder and therefore avoids many of the problems associated with using solder in pipeline applications, for both MFL and other pipeline applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2004Publication date: December 29, 2005Inventors: Michael Hooper, Weng Foong, Brett Woods, Dolores Houghton

Patent number: 6349865Abstract: The present invention provides a device for storing or securing objects in a truck bed. The device comprises a collapsible compartment and two or more straps, each strap comprising a first end attached to the compartment and a second end having a fastener affixed to the second end for securing the second end to a rigid component of the truck, such as the truck frame. The storage compartment and system secures objects from sliding around the bed and protects the objects from damage during transport or inclement weather. The device may be installed without invasive modification of the truck bed, conserves cargo hauling capacity of the truck by including a compartment that is collapsible, and, optionally, provides tie downs for securing oversized objects in the truck bed.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2000Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: Tibs CorporationInventors: Alan Tolley, Michael Hooper, Blake Leary, Hong Xu

Patent number: 6302095Abstract: A burn prevention screen for use with an outdoor cooking grill. The burn prevention screen has a piece of high temperature tolerant material and a fastener for securing the high temperature tolerant material to the external surface of the grill. The high temperature tolerant material should be flexible, weather resistant, have a low thermal conductivity and be stable at temperatures in excess of 450° F. to 800° F. for extended periods of time. Examples of suitable material include felts, woven ceramic fiber, polymer sheet, composite fabric, other similar materials, or combinations of these materials. The fasteners are preferably magnets, with the preferred magnet being a rare earth magnet or other high temperature tolerant magnet that will retain its magnetic performance after repeated heating and cooling cycles.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2000Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: TIBS, Inc.Inventors: Alan Tolley, Michael Hooper, Blake Leary
