Patent number: 10677017Abstract: A technique facilitates controlling fluid flow in a well system or other flow related system. The control of fluid flow may be accomplished by utilizing a flow control valve which is selectively actuated via the controlled application of an actuating fluid. An isolation valve is positioned along the flow of actuating fluid at a location upstream of the flow control valve. The isolation valve establishes a preset pressure which is applied to establish flow of actuating fluid to the flow control valve and also isolates detrimental pressure transients. For example, the isolation valve may be used to reduce or block the propagation of detrimental pressure transients along the actuating fluid to other controlled devices.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2014Date of Patent: June 9, 2020Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Michael Hui Du, Yves D. Loretz

Patent number: 8863832Abstract: An assembly employing multiple eccentric devices about a mandrel. The assembly is configured such that at least one of the eccentric devices is adjustably orientable relative another. Thus, for example, where the devices are packers disposed about completions tubing, the adjustable orientation may be utilized to ensure enough clearance is available for downhole advancement of the assembly. As such, the assembly may remain eccentric in nature without concern over damage during positioning, particularly to a communication line running to actuatable implements of equipment coupled to the completions assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2010Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Michael Hui Du, Kevin Beveridge

Publication number: 20110168406Abstract: A completions system utilizing a unique hydraulic coupling. The system includes an upper completion stinger configured for coupling to a lower completion tubular. Both the stinger and the tubular are outfitted with hydraulic lines therethrough. Thus, as the stinger is coupled to the tubular, hydraulic lines are also coupled. However, the termination of each line is sealingly covered by a slidable sleeve in advance of attaining the coupling between the stinger and tubular. Therefore, the lines are protected from contamination during potentially significant periods of well deployment that may occur in advance of completed coupling and system installation. Furthermore, the manner of hydraulic coupling between the stinger and tubular reduces the likelihood of damage to the hydraulic lines during the installation process.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2011Publication date: July 14, 2011Applicant: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Michael Hui Du, Gary Rytlewski, David Wei Wang
