  • Publication number: 20100281508
Abstract: A media server is hosted in a service provider's network so that media content can be stored from or rendered to a private network such as a Digital Living Network Alliance network. Media content may be stored by accessing the media server or by downloading the media content to the media server. Support of set top boxes interacting with voice-on-demand (VOD) controllers and computers interacting with IP-based video content servers are integrated through the media server. Consequently, VOD assets can be played on IP-based devices and IP-based content can be played on set top boxes. A gateway function converts IP-based content to a VOD asset, and renders the VOD asset to a set top box while mapping digital rights management information for the VOD asset. Conversely, the gateway function may convert a VOD asset to IP-based content that can be played on an IP-based device.

  • Publication number: 20100062766
Abstract: A self-install model for installing digital telephony services at a user premises uses a Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (“DECT”) system having a base station and a cordless telephone. The self-install model enables the activation of telephony services at the user premises automatically through an Internet Protocol network of a service provider such that the user is able to make and receive calls at the user premises over a communication network upon activation of the telephony services. The self-install model involves pre-tests to ensure signal strength of the connection between the user premises and the communication network; acceptance by the user to the service provider's terms and conditions for providing the telephony services to the user premises by way of messages from the service provider being displayed on the cordless handset; activation of the telephony services by the service provider; and post-install service verification tests.

  • Patent number: 5627850
Abstract: A laser diode array includes a dielectric block with a "direct bonded" conductor layer. The conductor layer is segmented by diode bar spaces cut through it, and a laser diode bar is positioned in each space. Current through the conductor layer energizes the laser diode bars. In one form, the laser diode array and the conductor layer form a conductor ring surrounding a laser medium which is energized by the laser diode bars. In another form, a coolant flow tube within the conductor ring forms an annular coolant channel around the enclosed laser medium. In still another form, the conductor ring is itself surrounded by coolant channels.

  • Patent number: 5604430
Abstract: A solar array maximum power point tracking system for regulating the power output of a solar array associated with a spacecraft. An on-board computer measures the bus voltage and current from the solar array and generates a power calculation of the solar array power output. The on-board computer applies a first reference signal to a remote error amplifier representative of an incremental change in the solar array power. Additionally, the solar array bus voltage is applied to the remote error amplifier such that the remote error amplifier senses the solar array bus voltage and generates an output voltage indicative of the change of the solar array power. The output voltage of the error amplifier is applied to a power processor unit. The output voltage from the remote error amplifier and the bus voltage are applied to a power stage within the power processor unit. The power stage generates an output current that is applied to an arcjet thruster.

  • Patent number: 4448478
Abstract: In a fiber optic connector element two or more fiber optic cables are each terminated in a ferrule whose end contains a beam expanding lens. The ferrules are tapered and each of them fits into a correspondingly tapered hole in an insert within the body of the connector element. The ends of the ferrules are substantially in the same plane and are adjacent to a transparent window which is mounted in a bezel surrounding the insert. When two such connector elements are mated, their windows are close to each other and parallel to each other, and each ferrule in one element is optically aligned with a ferrule in the other element. The casings and bodies of the connector elements may be constructed hermaphroditically.
