Publication number: 20240091891Abstract: A method for repairing a crack in a structure includes mounting a manifold to the structure around the crack. The structure has a nonplanar surface contour that surrounds the crack. The manifold has a base portion, a cover portion, and a plug. The base portion has a grip surface configured to conform to the nonplanar surface contour of the structure. The cover portion is connected to the base portion, and has an injection port and a vent port in fluid communication with a channel aligned to the crack. The injection port transfers a bonding material into and out of the channel. The plug closes and opens the vent port. The method includes filling the channel with the bonding material to direct the bonding material into the crack, and draining the bonding material from the manifold.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Applicant: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Michael J. Deluca, Matthew H. Cawthorne, Howard T. Rolleston

Patent number: 11350071Abstract: A display system renders a motion parallax view of object images based upon multiple observers. Also, a headset renders stereoscopic images that augment either physical objects viewed through the headset, or virtual objects projected by a stereoscopic display separate from the headset, or both. The headset includes a system for locating both physical objects and object images within a stereographic projection. Also, a proprioceptive user interface defines interface locations relative to body parts of an observer, the body parts include the head and the shoulders of the observer. The observer may enable a process associated with the interface location by indicating an intersection with the interface location with a physical object, such as a wand or a finger of the observer.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2019Date of Patent: May 31, 2022Inventor: Michael J. Patent number: 11001375Abstract: Structurally tunable cores are described that can be implemented, for example, in aircraft components. An example flex beam for coupling a rotor blade to a rotor hub includes a first composite laminate, a second composite laminate, a third composite laminate, first resilient core members and second resilient core members. The first composite laminate forms a first skin of the flex beam. The second composite laminate is located opposite the first composite laminate and forms a second skin of the flex beam. The third composite laminate is located between the first composite laminate and the second composite laminate. The first resilient core members extend between the first composite laminate and the third composite laminate. The second resilient core members extend between the second composite laminate and the third composite laminate.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2019Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Peter Holemans, Michael J. Patent number: 9887790Abstract: A system and method for automated activation of a radio, or content receiver, used to receive subscription radio services such as XM or Sirius radio. A wireless communications device with a short range data link wirelessly communicates with the content receiver to control the content receiver and receive a unique identification code from the content receiver. The wireless communications device also has its own unique identification code. The wireless communications device transmits an activation request message over a long range wireless communications link to a control station. The activation request message contains the receivers unique identification code and the communications device's own unique identification code. The control station maintains a database of valid identification codes that is used to authenticate the request. If the control station receives a valid request, an activation signal is sent to the receiver to allow operation of the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2016Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: Sirius XM Radio Inc.Inventor: Michael J. Patent number: 9231563Abstract: A system and method for assigning received channels to preset tuning keys of a receiver. A series of preset keys are sequentially labeled and one preset key, such as the preset key marked “0,” is a pre-defined preset key. An elongated pressing of the pre-defined key causes the currently tuned channel, if it is not assigned to a preset key, to be assigned to an unassigned preset key. If the currently tuned channel is already assigned to a preset key, pressing the pre-defined key instead causes the currently selected channel to be un-assigned from that preset key. Radios with two tuners that each process different sets of radio signals assign channels for a particular tuner to alternating preset keys, allowing acceleration of sequentially selecting channels assigned to pre-set keys by pre-tuning another tuner to the next channel in the sequence.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2013Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: Sirius XM Radio Inc.Inventors: Michael J. Patent number: 9161292Abstract: A combination of a radio receiver with a detachable controller is presented. The radio receiver sends either reduced or enhanced metadata about received programming to the controller. A connection from the controller to the receiver carries commands and carries only the reduced set of metadata, such as tuned channel and tuned channel name, from the radio receiver back to the controller. The controller is authorized by the radio receiver sending a radio identifier to the controller, determination of an authentication code at the controller and communication of the determined authentication code back to the radio receiver for validation. Upon validation, an enhanced set of metadata, including song title and artist, is sent to the controller. The enhanced metadata, the reduced metadata, or both, may be encrypted. Such authorization processing is periodically performed by the radio receiver.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2013Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Sirius XM Radio Inc.Inventors: Michael J. DeLuca, Paul Kelley, Nitesh Singhal

Patent number: 9025054Abstract: A method of filtering a red-eye phenomenon from an acquired digital image including a multiplicity of pixels indicative of color, the pixels forming various shapes of the image, includes analyzing meta-data information, determining one or more regions within the digital image suspected as including red eye artifact, and determining, based at least in part on the meta-data analysis, whether the regions are actual red eye artifact. The meta-data information may include information describing conditions under which the image was acquired, captured and/or digitized, acquisition device-specific information, and/film information.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2013Date of Patent: May 5, 2015Assignee: FotoNation LimitedInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 8885074Abstract: A digital image acquisition system having no photographic film, such as a digital camera, has a flash unit for providing illumination during image capture and a red-eye filter for detecting a region within a captured image indicative of a red-eye phenomenon, the detection being based upon a comparison of the captured image and a reference image of nominally the same scene taken without flash. In the embodiment the reference image is a preview image of lower pixel resolution than the captured image, the filter matching the pixel resolutions of the captured and reference images by up-sampling the preview image and/or sub-sampling the captured image. The filter also aligns at least portions of the captured image and reference image prior to comparison to allow for, e.g. movement in the subject.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2014Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: DigitalOptics Corporation Europe LimitedInventors: Eran Steinberg, Yury Prilutsky, Peter Corcoran, Petronel Bigioi, Michael J.
