  • Patent number: 10026511
Abstract: A nuclear reactor comprises a nuclear reactor core disposed in a pressure vessel. An isolation valve protects a penetration through the pressure vessel. The isolation valve comprises: a mounting flange connecting with a mating flange of the pressure vessel; a valve seat formed into the mounting flange; and a valve member movable between an open position and a closed position sealing against the valve seat. The valve member is disposed inside the mounting flange or inside the mating flange of the pressure vessel. A biasing member operatively connects to the valve member to bias the valve member towards the open position. • Publication number: 20150364222
Abstract: A nuclear reactor is supported by a primary support anchored to a civil structure and defining a reactor support plane located below the center of gravity of the nuclear reactor. A lateral seismic support engages the nuclear reactor below the reactor support plane to prevent lateral motion of the nuclear reactor. In one approach a flange, protrusion, or ledge of the reactor pressure vessel rests on a support engagement surface, a seismic rotational restraint assembly prevents the nuclear reactor from rotating during a seismic event, and a liftoff prevention assembly prevents vertical liftoff of the flange, protrusion, or ledge of the reactor pressure vessel from the support engagement surface. The lateral seismic support may comprise a pin connected with the bottom of the reactor pressure vessel engaging a pin socket connected with or formed in a floor of the civil structure of the radiological containment containing the nuclear reactor.

  • Publication number: 20150194226
Abstract: A nuclear reactor is surrounded by a reactor radiological containment structure. A spent fuel pool is adjacent to and outside of the reactor radiological containment structure. The spent fuel pool may also be contained in its own radiological containment structure. A valved steam pipe runs from the reactor containment structure into the spent fuel pool. During a reactor containment overpressure event, a valve on the steam pipe is opened to allow steam from the reactor containment structure to discharge into (e.g. sparge into) the spent fuel pool. In an alternative embodiment suitable for use in a two-pack nuclear power plant, steam pipes connect the reactor radiological containment structures of the two nuclear reactors, and isolation valves on the steam pipes are opened in response to an overpressure condition in one reactor containment structure in order to discharge steam into the other reactor containment structure.
