  • Patent number: 9873374
Abstract: A dial assembly is provided that includes a dial surface including a flat surface and a plurality of lines formed on the flat surface projected from a 3D object that generate a 3D appearance. One or more light sources illuminate each of the lines of the plurality of lines. A method of forming a dial assembly is also provided. The method includes dividing a subject 3D dial with a plurality of equidistant planes and projecting edges of the planes onto a flat dial surface to form a plurality of lines to generate a 3D appearance on the flat dial surface.

    Assignee: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Vyacheslav Birman, Authur S Brown, Michael J Hartmeyer
  • Patent number: 9677918
Abstract: A light housing for propagating light therethrough is disclosed. The light housing includes a base surface, indented surfaces extending from and connected to the base surface, and roof portions extending from and connected to the base surface. The indented surfaces form openings for light emission through the openings. Each roof portion extends over one of the openings. An instrument cluster assembly for a motor vehicle including the light housing is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160077588
Abstract: A reconfigurable switch array assembly incorporating a touch screen system and haptics feedback that sends a signal for executing desired functions selected by a user and that alerts an operator by providing mechanical feedback. Graphics viewable on the touch screen and desired functions are reconfigurable utilizing module software compatible for selectively providing several different graphical and/or functional configurations contained in a single package. The reconfigurable switch array assembly has a rocker button that moves to a downward and upward position. When a user touches the desired function's graphic a capacitive field is created by a capacitive film to identify the desired function. The rocker button rotates from a static position to a downward or upward position caused by the force of the user's touch, which actuates a tactile switch to perform the selected function.
