Patent number: 12101426Abstract: An electronic device may have pixels that form an active area for a flexible display layer. An inactive area that is free of pixels may surround the active area. One or more edges of the flexible display layer may be bent around respective bend axes. The display layer may also have one or more unbent edges in which the inactive area and active area of the display have a planar shape. An image transport layer may have an input surface that receives the image and an output surface to which the image is transported. The image transport layer may be formed from a coherent fiber bundle or a layer of Anderson localization material. The coherent fiber bundle may have straight fibers that run parallel to each other in a vertical direction that is parallel to a surface normal of a central portion of the display layer.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2021Date of Patent: September 24, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Tyler R. Publication number: 20210362008Abstract: A golf ball retrieval device couples to a shaft of the flag stick while it is upstanding in a cup on a golf green. The device includes a support member at a lower end of a stem and a handle at an upper end of the stem. When attached to the flag stick, the support member is seated in the cup with the stem projecting upwardly to the handle. When a golfer holes out with his or her ball in the cup along with the flag stick, the ball is supported on the support member in the cup. To retrieve the ball from the cup, and without touching the flag stick, the golfer hooks the putter under the handle of the device and raises the handle and support member connected thereto along the shaft of the flag stick until the ball exits the cup on the support member. The golfer may allow the ball to roll off of the support member and back onto the green or grab the ball from the support member.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2021Publication date: November 25, 2021Inventors: Michael J. Patent number: 7585550Abstract: A process is described for modifying polymeric surfaces. The process is particularly useful for modification of polyesters, and can be used to impart surface functionality that confers antimicrobial, anti-soiling, or other desirable properties to the polymer. The process comprises the steps of exposing a polymeric substrate to deep UV irradiation, followed by reaction with a grafting agent. In preferred embodiments, a vapor-phase grafting agent undergoes covalent reactions with the UV-modified polymer surface to produce a polymer with improved properties.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2005Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: College of William and MaryInventors: Michael J Kelley, Zhengmao Zhu

Patent number: 7234888Abstract: An item such as a passenger assist handle is anchored to an automotive framing component by a mounting stud passing through a hole in the framing component. The mounting stud includes a shaft with a helix at a first end and a threaded portion at a second end. The helix and threaded portion are of opposite hands and the threaded portion receives a stop nut thereon. The automotive framing component has a teardrop shaped opening therethrough having a first diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the shaft and a second diameter substantially equal to the radius of the helix. Upon threading the nut onto the shaft, while the stud is held initially stationary by frictional engagement between its surface and surfaces of the framing component adjacent to the teardrop shaped opening, the stop nut bottoms against a shoulder on the shaft and then begins rotating the shaft to drive the helix through the teardrop shaped opening.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2004Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: James R. Publication number: 20040006074Abstract: Certain derivatives of acridones and benzothiadiazines have been found to have anti-cancer properties by virtue of their specific inhibition of the cyclin D dependent kinase CDK4. These molecules inhibit CDK4 activity more than they inhibit the activity of other such kinases (e.g. CDC2 and CDK2). This specificity results in an improved therapeutic index when used as drugs to treat susceptible cancers.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2002Publication date: January 8, 2004Applicant: The Government of the United States of AmericaInventors: Michael J.
