Finally, a novel method of applying a fluid comprises the steps of providing a flexible liner integral with a container having an opening and a vent, loading fluid into the liner, engaging the container with a fluid applicator, flowing the fluid out of the liner into the fluid applicator, collapsing the liner, and flowing the fluid of the fluid applicator.

Reciprocation of the piston in the cylinder draws the component into the cylinder during an intake stroke of the pumping apparatus and exhausts the material from the cylinder during an exhaust stroke of the pumping apparatus. Intake and exhaust valves are provided into the cylinder. Each of the intake and exhaust valve includes a housing oriented outside the cylinder to facilitate repair or replacement of the valves. A pumping motor on each side of the cylinder is coupled to a support and to the piston to move the support and piston relatively toward each other during the exhaust stroke and relatively away from each other during the intake stroke. A position indicator is coupled to the pumping motor. The pumping motor controls sense the position of the position indicator.

    Abstract: An adjustable adapter includes two arms, each having an axis, a surface substantially normal to the axis, wherein the surfaces of the arms face each other, an end and a passageway for fluid communication between the end and the opening, wherein one of the arm ends is for connection to an inlet of an applicator and the other arm end is for connection to an outlet of a container, and a fastener for pivotally coupling the arms. One of the arm surfaces is provided with a groove in fluid communication with both arm openings. The groove is sealed to prevent fluid from leaking from between the surfaces. When the fastener is in a rotation-resisting mode, the fastener forces the surfaces of the arm toward one another sufficiently to increase friction and resist rotation therebetween, and when the fastener is in a rotation-permitting mode, the fastener releases the surfaces sufficiently to decrease friction and permit rotation therebetween.

    Abstract: A dispensing system for a plural component mixture includes a dispensing device, a first container which may or may not be flexible, and separate flexible second containers for each of the components. The second containers are adapted to be placed within the first container. The first container is adapted to be held by an operator during dispensing of plural component mixture from the dispensing device. Separate conduits are coupled between the second containers and the dispensing device. The dispensing device includes a passageway for the passage of each respective component through the dispensing device. Each passageway includes a valve. An actuator controls the valves, thereby controlling the passage of the respective components through the dispensing device. A second valve is coupled in the conduits between the respective components' sources and the dispensing device.

    Abstract: A hand held paint spray gun having a top mounted paint cup which extends from the rear of a gun body at an angle of 30.degree..+-.10.degree. to an axis about which the atomized paint is discharged. A retainer ring secures a lid on the cup. The lid seals to both the inside and the outside of the cup. The double seals reduce the risk of paint leakage. Preferably, the gun operates with suction paint feed which is augmented by gravity feed when paint in the cup is located above a nozzle assembly on the gun. To facilitate cleaning and to allow the gun to spray in an upward direction, the paint may be sealed in a collapsible closed bag located in the cup. With the closed bag and the suction feed, the gun will operate when aimed in all directions. The gun is easily cleaned by forcing solvent from the nozzle assembly back into the bag and disposing of the bag containing any remaining paint and the used solvent.

    Abstract: Disposable air filter includes a filter element formed from a stacked plurality of annular disks. The disks are formed from a sorptive material and expand upon absorption of oil or water droplets. The disks are slightly compressed by a movable baffle. The baffle floats upon a stream of air entering the filter and directs the air radially through the filter element. The air flows between and through the disks with a resulting low pressure drop across the filter. As the disks expand, the baffle shifts axially within a filter housing to maintain the pressure drop across the filter element.

    Abstract: A valve for a pressure feed paint cup. An adapter is attached to a lid for the cup. A check valve assembly is secured to a threaded end of the adapter which extends below the lid and a vent valve is secured to a threaded end of the adapter which extends above the lid. An air line is attached to the vent valve to supply pressurized air to the paint cup. The check valve has a spherical valve ball which engages a conical valve seat near the diameter of the ball to increase the seating force without increasing the valve opening force. The valve seat and the valve ball are formed from low friction materials. A valve stem is manually moved to first open a vent valve which vents air pressure from the air line and then to move the valve ball from its conical seat.
