  • Patent number: 9855918
Abstract: A method for controlling access to a vehicle function includes communicating, between a vehicle controller and a portable controller, a plurality of signals. The plurality of signals include an authentication signal and a location signal. The method also includes processing, by at least one of the vehicle controller and the portable controller, the authentication signal during an authentication confirmation process to determine authentication of the portable device. The method further includes processing, by at least one of the vehicle controller and the portable controller, the location signal during a proximity confirmation process to determine whether the portable device is within a predetermined proximity of the vehicle. Additionally, the method includes providing access to the vehicle function of the component when the portable device is authenticated and the portable device is within the predetermined proximity of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9840119
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting an object behind a vehicle are provided. The method includes determining a status of an electrical connection between an object and the vehicle; detecting a forward movement of the vehicle; based on the status of the electrical connection and the detecting of the forward movement, detecting the object behind the vehicle; and controlling to output a notification that alerts of the status of the electrical connection. The method and apparatus may be used to alert an operator when the trailer is electrically disconnected from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9598008
Abstract: A notification system for notification of a vehicle operator that an electronic device is in a bin when a triggering event occurs includes a bin, a charging device for charging the electronic device when the electronic device is in the bin, and a controller. The controller is in communication with the charging device and includes a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which is recorded instructions to provide a notification to the vehicle operator when the electronic device is in the bin and the triggering event occurs. The triggering event may be a transition of a vehicle electrical power system to an ignition off mode. The charging device may be an inductive charging device.

  • Patent number: 7708127
Abstract: Accordingly, a control system for controlling a viscous clutch of a fan is provided. The control system includes a delta speed module that determines one of an over speed condition, an under speed condition, and a steady state condition based on a desired fan speed and an actual fan speed. A mode module determines a mode of the clutch based on the one of the over-speed condition, the under-speed condition, and the steady state condition, wherein the mode is one of a pump in mode, a pump out mode, and a closed loop mode. A valve control module that controls an operational state of the clutch valve based on the mode.
