Patent number: 10215926Abstract: A flexible pin for use in a male fiber optic connector is flexible both in bending and radially to accommodate variations in fiber optic ferrules of the male fiber optic connector and a female fiber optic connector. The flexibility may accommodate angular errors of the male and the female fiber optic connectors. The flexibility may also accommodate diametral errors of the flexible pin of the male fiber optic connector and diametral errors in a pin hole of the female fiber optic connector. The flexibility is sufficient that a connector spring or spring clamp can mate mating faces of the male and the female fiber optic connectors with the errors present. In certain embodiments, the flexible pin is a removable pin that includes a latch. The removable pin can be installed and removed from a fiber optic connector without disassembling a ferrule from a connector housing of the fiber optic connector.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: CommScope Technologies LLCInventor: Michael J. Publication number: 20130216186Abstract: An optical fiber connection system includes a first and a second optical fiber, each with end portions that are terminated by a first and a second fiber optic connector, respectively. A fiber optic adapter connects the first and the second fiber optic connectors. A fiber alignment apparatus includes V-blocks and gel blocks. Each of the fiber optic connectors includes a connector housing and a sheath. The end portions of the optical fibers are positioned beyond distal ends of the respective connector housings. The sheath is slidably connected to the connector housing and slides between an extended configuration and a retracted configuration. The sheath covers the end portion of the respective optical fiber when the sheath is at the extended configuration and exposes the end portion when at the retracted configuration. The end portions of the optical fibers are cleaned when slid between the V-blocks and the gel blocks.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2012Publication date: August 22, 2013Applicant: ADC TELECOMMUNICATIONS, INC.Inventor: Michael J. Patent number: 8332922Abstract: In a web-based service environment, third party providers need to have varying degrees of access to user data for their complementary services. To prevent third party providers from having broader access than necessary or not adequate levels of access, transferable restricted security tickets are employed to determine an appropriate level of access for third parties. Tickets with expiration and restriction roles define a duration and level of access for a third party. The restrictions are determined through an intersection of the authorizing user's security role and restriction roles defined in the system.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2007Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Richard L. Dickinson, Edward A. Martinez, Dominic J. Pouzin, Jasjit S. Grewal, Michael J. Ott

Patent number: 8146099Abstract: Service-oriented systems employing pipeline architecture to accommodate third party extensions for extending existing functionality or providing additional functionality are provided. User or third party provided plug-ins are registered through metadata and executed in a pipeline along with platform operations. The pipeline is extendable on the fly with newly uploaded plug-ins. Dependency analyses for ordering synchronous or asynchronous pipeline operations enable multiple parties to extend the system and operate predictably. Loop detection mechanisms prevent misuse of system resources through accidental or malicious creation of infinite loops with exceptions for non-degenerate infinite loops.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2007Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Alexander Tkatch, Ghanaie-Sichanie Arash, Akezyt Janedittakarn, Michael J. Ott, Nishant Gupta

Publication number: 20100262632Abstract: A customer can request migration of its data from a multi-tenant hosting environment to a local environment. The customer's data is pulled from the multi-tenant hosting environment and scrubbed so that it is compatible with a local version of the application previously hosted in the multi-tenant hosting environment. The data is made available to the customer at a secure location in the hosting environment. The customer retrieves the data, after proper authentication, to its local data store, and then imports the data into the local version of the application. Users of the local version of the application are then mapped from previous multi-jurisdictional identifications to local user identifications in the application.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2009Publication date: October 14, 2010Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Shikha Jain, Michael J. Ott, Douglas W. Wood, David R. Shutt, Howard A. Hurst

Publication number: 20100209058Abstract: A communications cable includes two or more optical fibers embedded in a jacket which supports the fibers at a predetermined center-to-center distance. The jacket including at least one reference surface oriented at a predetermined angle to the reference plane. The communications cable may also include one or more electrical conductor. Apparatus is provided for preparing the ends of the optical fibers without use of a ferrule, and for transmitting multiple electrical and/or optical signals over the communications cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2008Publication date: August 19, 2010Inventor: Michael J. Publication number: 20100054680Abstract: Disclosed are spools, fiber optic assemblies, and methods for use with a lashing machine or other suitable deployment for routing the fiber optic cable toward the subscriber allowing the craft to quickly and easily deploy the fiber optic cable in the field. The fiber optic assemblies may include a spool, at least one fiber optic cable disposed on the spool, and a fiber optic connector. In one embodiment, the spool includes a first spool flange and a second spool flange that include notches that overlap at angular positions for allowing the spooling of fiber optic cable off the same. In another embodiment, the fiber optic connector is attached to the spool for plug and play connectivity of the spool. In other embodiments, a splitter may be attached to the spool for splitting the optical signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2008Publication date: March 4, 2010Inventors: Gregory A. Lochkovic, Michael J. Ott, Jorge R. Serrano, Dennis M. Knecht
