  • Publication number: 20030105224
Abstract: The invention provides reagents and methods for conjugating polymers specifically to the &agr;-amine of polypeptides in high yield. The invention provides monofunctional, bifunctional, and multifunctional PEGs and related polymers having a thioester moiety capable of specifically conjugating to the &agr;-amine of a polypeptide having a cysteine or histidine at the N-terminus. The invention provides active thioester derivatives of PEG that have suitable reactivity with an N-terminal cysteine or histidine residue of a polypeptide to produce an amide bond between the PEG and polypeptide. Use of these active esters to prepare PEG-proteins and PEG-peptides is described.

  • Patent number: 5937772
Abstract: A process and apparatus for combustion in which a combustible material is introduced into a combustion chamber and oxidant is supplied to the combustion chamber. The combustible material is burned, and forming a primary combustion zone. A mixture of flue gases and flyash having an organic content is injected into the combustion chamber downstream of the primary combustion zone to create an oxygen-deficient reburn zone, thereby lowering the temperature of combustion, reducing the NO.sub.x content of the flue gases, and reducing the potential for NO.sub.x formation in a tertiary oxidizing combustion zone disposed downstream of the oxygen-deficient reburn zone.

  • Patent number: 5934892
Abstract: A process for combustion of a combustible material in which a primary combustible material is introduced into a combustion chamber having an upstream region and a downstream region, and ignited, forming a primary combustion zone. A secondary combustible material is partially combusted in a partial combustor, forming partial combustion products which are then injected into the combustion chamber downstream of the primary combustion zone, forming an oxygen deficient zone downstream of the primary combustion zone.

  • Patent number: 5228780
Abstract: A dual-mode Johnson noise and DC resistance thermometer capable of use in control systems where prompt indications of temperature changes and long term accuracy are needed. A resistance-inductance-capacitance (RLC) tuned circuit produces a continuous voltage signal for Johnson noise temperature measurement. The RLC circuit provides a mean-squared noise voltage that depends only on the capacitance used and the temperature of the sensor. The sensor has four leads for simultaneous coupling to a noise signal processor and to a DC resistance signal processor.

  • Patent number: 5029110
Abstract: An automatic data plotting apparatus consists of three main parts: a processor; a serial and parallel interface; and a plotter. The plotter is a flat-bed X-Y plotter. The data processor is programmed to handle one or more data inputs and instruct the plotter to record information relating to the data inputs on a plot. The processor translates the incoming data into times, bearings, tracks and any other characteristics. A pause facility is provided to suspend plotting, the incoming data being stored in a data store while the pause facility is in operation and being recorded on the plot when the pause is discontinued. An automatic data plotting apparatus provides a focal point at which incoming information can be co-ordinated and displayed. The displayed information can then be evaluated and/or stored for later analysis.
