  • Publication number: 20010041948
Abstract: A method and system for staging and shipping articles of freight at a transfer facility by which a radio frequency tag capable of receiving and storing transactional data is placed on each of a plurality of articles of freight, the data regarding the article on which the tag placed. After determining at least the approximate weight and outer dimensions of each article of freight, transactional data representative of at least the weight, the outer dimensions, and the desired destination of the article of freight are transferred to and stored in the respective radio frequency tags. As each article of freight is transferred from one location to another within the facility, the transactional data from each radio associated frequency tag is read and stored in one or more memory devices.

  • Patent number: 6103879
Abstract: Antibodies and Bivalent molecules which activate erythropoietins and induce the proliferation or differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells are provided. Also provided are methods of using such bivalent molecules for drug discovery, diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the activation of an erythropoietin receptor.

  • Patent number: 5576220
Abstract: The invention relates to methods and systems of unhindered construction and display of tethered organic ligand molecules, and more particularly to preparation and use of thin film, substantially non-crosslinked hydrophilic polar multi-functionalized polymers (HPMPs) anchored to a variety of functionalized substrates so that the HPMP forms a thin film matrix layer providing a unique highly hydrated, high dielectric environment equivalent to an aqueous solution, for affinity binding of Ligands (L) to Tagged Target Molecules (TTMs). Ligands, and especially MER.sub.n ligand libraries such as peptide libraries, are singly tethered to the HPMP by a "permanent" strong covalent bond so that subsequent displacement of the TTM does not also displace the ligand from the HPMP, thereby making the HPMP tethered Ligand library reusable. The HPMP thin film is on the order of 200-2000 .ANG.

  • Patent number: 5422761
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive includes redundant data written at a plurality of out of phase angular locations to reduce the latency and enhance performance during a read operation. The loss of recording capacity is reduced by increasing the data density to achieve the same soft error rate standard required for single recording. Dual recording also allows different recording codes to be used at the duplicated locations to thereby have the more highly stressed code words occur at different locations in the data to further reduce the possibility of an error. The redundant recording can be used in one portion of the media and normal recording used in another media portion to enable selection of the recording technique in accordance with the type of data being stored. The size of the normal and redundant recording portions can be controlled by the format operation and the user of the disk drive can intervene to designate the size of the redundant and normal media recording portions effected during the format operation.

  • Patent number: 4831469
Abstract: One phase of a multi-phase spindle motor, normally used to rotate the disk of a disk drive system when power is on, is used to supply power to a capacitor storage circuit when power is lost (turned off or otherwise interrupted). The capacitor storage circuit provides the power to the retract circuit, which retracts the head. The combination of the generator effect of the phase and the capacitor storage circuit provides power to the retract circuit for a time clearly sufficient to reliably retract and lock the head regardless of the bias of the head prior to power loss.Simultaneously with one phase being used to retract the head, the other phases are shorted together to provide regenerative braking. FET drivers, normally used to drive the spindle motor when power is supplied, are used to short out the remaining phases to brake the motor when power is lost.In the preferred embodiment, the capacitor storage circuit is used as a line filter circuit when power is on.
