  • Patent number: 11498716
Abstract: A method of applying a linerless label to an article wherein a web of joined labels is die cut from a web of label material in which the adhesive is protected by a water-soluble coating which provides a cushion between an anvil and die cutting means. The water-soluble coating is at least partially removed by exposure to water in a press following die-cutting, in a label applicator, or in an off-line unit. The web of joined labels may be wound and unwound between each of the above options. The web of joined labels may be separated in a label applicator by breaking a weakened boundary between adjoining labels or by cutting at a boundary between the label and the adjoining label. The linerless label may contain anti-counterfeit means that may be subsequently identified overtly and/or covertly.

  • Publication number: 20220315265
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reuse and/or recycling of liner material layers from a label supply which typically includes the liner material layer and a label supply material in which the labels are formed and from which the labels are subsequently applied to one or more articles. The invention allows the separation and processing and recycling of the liner material layer which, otherwise and conventionally would be treated as waste. The invention allows this to be achieved without the need for the application of any material to the label supply following the formation of the same. The recycling can be in the form of forming the liner material into a raw material for subsequent processing or, alternatively, using the liner material as an adhesive tape or, alternatively, directly reusing the liner material layer as part of another label supply.

  • Patent number: 11298912
Abstract: A pre-assembled kit of cut shapes disposed upon a peelable or repositionable adhesive by means of an affixing adhesive protected by a water-soluble coating which is solubilised either prior to and/or on application of the kit to a surface which may be moistened prior to application. When the water-soluble coating is solubilised, in whole or in part, by placing in contact with the moistened surface, it will expose and/or activate, in whole or in part, the pressure-sensitive adhesive beneath the water-soluble coating to the surface to which it is to be applied and the pre-assembled kit will become affixed to the surface. Alternatively, solubilisation of the water-soluble coating may be provided by applying water, preferably warm water, to the water-soluble coating prior to applying the pre-assembled kit to the surface. A method of producing the pre-assembled kit of cut shapes is provided.

  • Patent number: 11027874
Abstract: This invention relates to application of labels from a supply of labels which are defined in sheet material and in which adjacent labels are joined together by a line of weakening to form a continuous label supply. The label sheet material is provided with a layer of adhesive which contacts with a backing layer to form the label supply. The leading label is provided with a leading edge portion detached from the backing layer from application at an application point to an article and the article and label feed movement are controlled such that the remainder of the label can be detached from the backing layer, and the line of weakening broken effectively and accurately and without the need for the sheet material of the label supply and/or backing layer to have a thickness to provide the level of rigidity or stiffness of the material which is conventionally required, thereby reducing material usage and wastage.

  • Patent number: 8573276
Abstract: The invention relates to a label, and method and apparatus for forming and dispensing the same. The label is provided as part of a roll of labels. The labels are attached to each other and/or extraneous label or substrate material via a discontinuous line with bridge portions. The labels have a layer of adhesive and a release layer applied thereto and ink printed thereon. In one embodiment the adhesive is applied over the release layer of material prior to forming the roll and when the labels are taken from the roll the adhesive layer leaves the release layer and contacts with the face of the label which overlies the same in the roll.

  • Patent number: 8409067
Abstract: A leaflet is produced from a pre-printed sheet of material by folding the sheet with at least one crease-line along the line of advancement of the sheet but preferably with two or more such crease-lines so that the sheet is fan-folded. The crease-lines are squeezed by a roller nip and then the sheet is fed into a diametral slot in a mandrel of elliptical cross-section. The leading edge of the sheet is gripped within the slot and then the mandrel is rotated to wind the sheet around the outer surface thereof. The wound sheet is then removed from the mandrel and is squeezed through a roller nip so as to form a substantially flat folded leaflet. The leaflet may be converted to a booklet by joining together the overlying sheets along one folded edge of the compressed leaflet and slitting open the other folded edge of the compressed leaflet.
