  • Publication number: 20180245792
Abstract: An axially staged combustion system includes a primary fuel nozzle, a primary combustion zone defined downstream from the primary fuel nozzle, a conical duct disposed downstream from the primary combustion zone and an integrated exit piece disposed downstream from the conical duct. The conical duct and the integrated exit piece at least partially form a hot gas path of the duct section. A plurality of fuel injectors is oriented radially inwardly with respect to an axial centerline of the duct section and is disposed downstream from the primary combustion zone. Each fuel injector of the plurality of fuel injectors provides for injection of a secondary fuel-air mixture into the hot gas path. The plurality of fuel injectors is distributed along at least one of the conical duct and the integrated exit piece.

  • Publication number: 20180187607
Abstract: A system for dissipating fuel egress includes a fuel injector and a fuel supply assembly. The fuel supply assembly has a fuel supply line that provides fuel and a purge air conduit arranged co-axially around the fuel supply line, thereby defining an annular channel around the fuel supply line. The fuel injector includes a perimeter body, a fuel injection port associated with the perimeter body, and an internal mixing chamber downstream of the fuel injection port in a direction of fuel flow. The fuel supply line provides fuel to the fuel injection port. The perimeter body of the fuel injector defines a fuel egress passage therethrough, which has an inlet in fluid communication with the annular channel and an outlet in fluid communication with the mixing chamber. A gas turbine combustor having an axial fuel staging (AFS) system with the present fuel egress dissipation system is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20170276359
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to the operation and turndown of a segmented annular combustion system. The method includes injecting, via a fuel nozzle, a combustible mixture into a primary combustion zone between an adjacent pair of integrated combustor nozzles and burning the combustible mixture. The method further includes flowing air and injecting fuel into a premixing channel defined within a first integrated combustor nozzle to produce a second combustible mixture. The second combustible mixture is injected into a secondary combustion zone where it is combusted. The flow of combustion gases is accelerated, via turbine nozzles of the integrated combustor nozzles, toward turbine blades of a downstream turbine section. The method permits turndown of the combustion system by reducing or shutting off fuel to various components of the combustion system.
