  • Patent number: 6232356
Abstract: The present invention provides a reactive catalyst composition for making a water blown flexible polyurethane foam. The catalyst composition comprises a tertiary amino alkyl urea and/or bis(tertiary amino alkyl) urea in combination with either a gelling catalyst or blowing catalyst. The use of such catalyst composition improves the physical properties of the polyurethane foam.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 20, 1997
Date of Patent: May 15, 2001
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Lisa Ann Mercando, Mark Leo Listemann, Michael John Kimock

  • Patent number: 5902835
Abstract: An improved method of preparing polyurethane foam by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyol in the presence of water and a combination of a gelling catalyst and a blowing catalyst, in which the blowing catalyst is a compound represented by the following formulae:?M(L.sup.1)(L.sup.2)(L.sup.3)(L.sup.4)!.sub.n?M(L.sup.1)(L.sup.2)(L.sup.3)!.sub.n?M(L.sup.1)(L.sup.2)!.sub.n?M(L.sup.1)!.sub.nwherein M is titanium, zirconium, or hafnium; n ranges from 1 to 20; and each of L.sup.1, L.sup.2, L.sup.3, and L.sup.

  • Patent number: 5859079
Abstract: A polyurethane catalyst composition comprises N,N'-bis(3-dimethylaminopropyl) urea and 3-dimethylaminopropyl urea in a ratio that can be varied to systematically control flowability, airflow, and force-to-crush physical properties for flexible polyurethane foam to enhance processibility. Increasing the N,N'-bis(3-dimethylaminopropyl) urea to 3-dimethylaminopropyl urea ratio increases the airflow and decreases the force-to-crush values of the foam whereas decreasing the N,N'-bis(3-dimethylaminopropyl) urea to 3-dimethylaminopropyl urea ratio improves the flowability of the foam.
