Patent number: 11916518Abstract: Examples provide methods and apparatus for controlling a DC bias current in an RF amplifier. In one example where the RF amplifier is implemented on an amplifier die, a reference voltage is produced across a reference resistor implemented on the amplifier die, the DC bias current is measured, and a current controller, which is implemented on a controller die that is separate from the amplifier die, operates a feedback loop using the reference voltage to control a level of the DC bias current.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2022Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: SKYWORKS SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Douglas M. Publication number: 20200097847Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for facilitating the tuning of hyperparameter values during the development of machine learning (ML) models using visual analytics in a data science platform. In an example embodiment, a computer-implemented data science platform is configured to generate, and display to a user, interactive visualizations that dynamically change in response to user interaction. Using the introduced technique, a user can, for example, 1) tune hyperparameters through an iterative process using visual analytics to gain and use insights into how certain hyperparameters affect model performance and convergence, 2) leverage automation and recommendations along this process to optimize the tuning given available resources, 3) collaborate with peers, and 4) view costs associated with executing experiments during the tuning process.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2018Publication date: March 26, 2020Inventors: Gregorio Convertino, Tianyi Li, Haley Allen Most, Wenbo Wenbo, Yi-Hsun Tsai, Michael Tristan Zajonc, Michael John Lee Williams

Patent number: 6446745Abstract: A control system for an electric powered vehicle provides substantially greater control and related features than the simple control systems known in the art. The control system can be utilized with any type of electric powered vehicle, such as bicycles, scooters, tricycles, four-wheeled vehicles, and the like. In a first embodiment of the invention, the control system estimates an amount of heat generated in the vehicle electric motor and assigns heat credits based on the relationship between the estimated motor heat and a predetermined heat level. The operation of the motor is then controlled in accordance with the available heat credits so as to prevent overheating of the motor. In a second embodiment of the invention, the control system monitors the current state of charge of the battery and presents that information to the rider.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Inventors: Michael John Lee, William H. Patent number: 5681990Abstract: A capacitive throttle position sensor includes an electrode board having at least three electrodes, a driver for selectively driving the electrodes, and a rotary member including a dielectric that provides capacitive path to an output electrode. Preferably, a logical driver provides incrementally sequenced charges to the driver electrodes. The output electrode is coupled to a signal processor that prepares the signal for comparison in a logical decoder with respect to an initiating driver electrode signal. Preferably, the phase difference between the output and input of the capacitive sensor provides an output signal which is not dependent upon the absolute capacitance of the element, and thus provides an output signal which can be adapted to a number of formats for motor vehicle control. Both two piece and three piece versions of the stationary and rotary parts are disclosed, and the capacitive gap may be axially or radially aligned between the stationary and rotary components.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Richard Joseph Hampo, David Lee Striker, William Henry Lee, Michael John Lee

Patent number: 5677550Abstract: An integrated circuit arrangement comprising a pair of double-gated insulated-gate transistor devices connectible in series, the first transistor of the pair being biased by one of the gates of the device so as to be operable as a depletion-mode device whilst the second transistor of the pair is biased by one of its two gates so as to be operable as an enhancement-mode device. The separately-biasable gate electrode permits the threshold voltage of the transistors to be adjusted independently so that the device may operate as either a depletion-mode transistor or as an enhancement mode transistor.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1994Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Assignee: British Technology Group LimitedInventor: Michael John Lee

Patent number: 3981230Abstract: An apparatus for thermally machining thermoplastics sheet, i.e. cutting and/or welding the sheet, uses a laser. The sheet is tensioned over a backing member of a suitable refractory material such as fused silica. The laser beam is focussed on the sheet over the backing member and the laser energy passing through the sheet is absorbed in the surface layers of the backing member which is highly absorbing at the laser output wavelength. The material of the backing material also has a low thermal diffusivity so that a hot spot is formed at the point where the focussed laser beam is incident. Because the sheet is held in intimate contact with the backing member, heat from the hot spot passed back into the sheet to aid machining.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1975Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Assignee: A. J. Bingley LimitedInventor: Michael John Lee

Patent number: 3971299Abstract: A machine for making bags out of thermoplastics material including a rotating drum having pockets, a feed station including means for feeding material into the pockets at a predetermined rate to form loops, the rate of feed being linked to the rotational speed of the drum by a feed-back control means to ensure that the loops are of a predetermined size. The loops are welded and cut by a laser to form bags.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1974Date of Patent: July 27, 1976Assignee: United Kingdom Atomic Energy AuthorityInventors: Harry Reed Whittle, Michael John Lee, Roy Causer
