  • Patent number: 6978131
Abstract: An apparatus for testing a cellular phone comprising an RF signal generator (122) for transmitting an RF signal (RF10) to said cellular phone, said RF signal generator receiving an input digital signal (DSIG10) which determines the characteristics of the RF signal, means (112, 116) for providing said input digital signal comprising means for receiving a digital signal (DSIG4, DSIG5), and at least one set of digital means, each set (A, B, C) of digital means comprising: a first digital means (200, 201, 202) to provide a first digital signal element relating to a first characteristic of said RF signal, and a second digital means (MA, MB, MC) to provide a second digital signal element relating to a second characteristic of said RF signal, and a means (203) to combine said digital signal elements to provide said input signal to said RF signal generator, said first, second and third characteristics comprise phase, amplitude and delay respectively.

  • Patent number: 6446745
Abstract: A control system for an electric powered vehicle provides substantially greater control and related features than the simple control systems known in the art. The control system can be utilized with any type of electric powered vehicle, such as bicycles, scooters, tricycles, four-wheeled vehicles, and the like. In a first embodiment of the invention, the control system estimates an amount of heat generated in the vehicle electric motor and assigns heat credits based on the relationship between the estimated motor heat and a predetermined heat level. The operation of the motor is then controlled in accordance with the available heat credits so as to prevent overheating of the motor. In a second embodiment of the invention, the control system monitors the current state of charge of the battery and presents that information to the rider.

  • Patent number: 5681990
Abstract: A capacitive throttle position sensor includes an electrode board having at least three electrodes, a driver for selectively driving the electrodes, and a rotary member including a dielectric that provides capacitive path to an output electrode. Preferably, a logical driver provides incrementally sequenced charges to the driver electrodes. The output electrode is coupled to a signal processor that prepares the signal for comparison in a logical decoder with respect to an initiating driver electrode signal. Preferably, the phase difference between the output and input of the capacitive sensor provides an output signal which is not dependent upon the absolute capacitance of the element, and thus provides an output signal which can be adapted to a number of formats for motor vehicle control. Both two piece and three piece versions of the stationary and rotary parts are disclosed, and the capacitive gap may be axially or radially aligned between the stationary and rotary components.

  • Patent number: 5677550
Abstract: An integrated circuit arrangement comprising a pair of double-gated insulated-gate transistor devices connectible in series, the first transistor of the pair being biased by one of the gates of the device so as to be operable as a depletion-mode device whilst the second transistor of the pair is biased by one of its two gates so as to be operable as an enhancement-mode device. The separately-biasable gate electrode permits the threshold voltage of the transistors to be adjusted independently so that the device may operate as either a depletion-mode transistor or as an enhancement mode transistor.

  • Patent number: 3981230
Abstract: An apparatus for thermally machining thermoplastics sheet, i.e. cutting and/or welding the sheet, uses a laser. The sheet is tensioned over a backing member of a suitable refractory material such as fused silica. The laser beam is focussed on the sheet over the backing member and the laser energy passing through the sheet is absorbed in the surface layers of the backing member which is highly absorbing at the laser output wavelength. The material of the backing material also has a low thermal diffusivity so that a hot spot is formed at the point where the focussed laser beam is incident. Because the sheet is held in intimate contact with the backing member, heat from the hot spot passed back into the sheet to aid machining.

  • Patent number: 3971299
Abstract: A machine for making bags out of thermoplastics material including a rotating drum having pockets, a feed station including means for feeding material into the pockets at a predetermined rate to form loops, the rate of feed being linked to the rotational speed of the drum by a feed-back control means to ensure that the loops are of a predetermined size. The loops are welded and cut by a laser to form bags.
