  • Publication number: 20130278146
Abstract: A selective street light control system includes a module having a lamp and being configured to receive a light sensor connected to a street light. The module may be configured to cause the lamp to illuminate to modulate the light sensor. The street light may be controlled based on the light sensor, and the when the light sensor is modulated by the lamp of the module, the street light is also controlled by the module. The module is a self-contained unit and that may advantageously be easily and cost effectively retrofitted to an existing installation without the need for expensive re-wiring of the existing installation.

  • Patent number: 8515302
Abstract: A method, print making device, and system for printing input document sheets as one or more print jobs, including the following steps. First, generating virtual documents with the documents including at least one code sheet and input document sheets. The code sheet(s) include commands for printing encrypted print jobs. Next, reviewing the virtual documents, and identifying a first code sheet. After that, decoding the first code sheet to identify commands for print jobs associated with the first code sheet. Then, printing the virtual documents following the first code sheet. Subsequently, identifying a second code sheet while printing the virtual documents of the first print job. Followed by decoding the second code sheet to identify the commands for printing the print jobs associated with the second code sheet. Lastly, printing the virtual documents following the second code sheet.

  • Patent number: 8494930
Abstract: Systems and methods of a pay-for-use pricing plan for consumables associated with a machine. The systems and methods include a machine that can detect a use of a consumable by a consumer. The use can be an installation of the consumable in the machine or an actual use of the consumable in the machine. The machine can detect a charge associated with the use of the consumable. Further, the machine can prompt the consumer for a payment and receive the payment from the consumer. In embodiments, the consumer can have an updatable account associated with the consumable usage. The machine can send an indication of the payment or updated account information to a supplier of the consumable.

  • Patent number: 8467107
Abstract: According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods and systems for correcting illumination defects in document handlers. A document handler successively moves an image-bearing sheet past an image sensor, when the edges of the document passes over the edge guide near a constant velocity transport roll the document tends to flick down onto the image sensor causing a lightness change at the edges. The proposed correction is dynamically adjusting the light source or dynamically adjusting the automatic gain control (AGC) of the imaging sensor. The method comprises characterizing an optical signal reflected from an image-bearing sheet as it passes a scan window, determining the illumination defects in at least one edge region based on the reflected signal, and adjusting the gain of the imaging sensor or the light level during receipt of the optical signal.

  • Patent number: 8259151
Abstract: A dual mode imaging system includes a dual wavelength ROS suitable for imaging xerographic media and erasable media. When included in an imaging system this includes media transport for selectively conveying non-erasable and erasable media to corresponding imaging positions in the dual mode imaging system. The system further includes a photoreceptor and a raster scanned light beam positioned to selectively image one of the photoreceptor and the erasable media. The media transport includes a non-erasable media transport path and an erasable media transport path, the erasable media transport path diverted from the non-erasable media transport path. An erasable medium in the diverted erasable media transport path intercepts a UV imaging raster scanned light beam, and in the absence of an erasable medium, the photoreceptor intercepts an IR raster scanned light beam.

  • Patent number: 8203583
Abstract: A system for imaging erasable media includes a thermal print head on a first side of an erasable medium and a UV illumination source opposing the thermal print head and on a second side of the erasable medium. The thermal print head locally heats the erasable medium at a pixel level and the UV illumination source images the erasable medium only at the locally heated regions thereof. Thus the normal roles of uniformly heating the media and imaging with the UV source are reversed.

  • Patent number: 7760434
Abstract: A scanning apparatus includes an illuminator for illuminating a portion of a document to be scanned. The illuminator includes an array of discrete light sources and an optical element. The optical element includes a light-transmissive material and defines a focusing portion and an angular modification portion. The angular modification portion tends to reduce specular flare by modifying the angular distribution of light from the light sources which are within the acceptance angle of a lens arrangement which focuses light from the document onto a sensor.
