  • Patent number: 8843284
Abstract: A method for controlling a manual transmission of a vehicle includes providing a manual transmission comprising a shift fork actuator and a shifter assembly comprising a shift lever, a shift knob disposed on the shifter lever, a shift lever position sensor and a shifter tactile sensor. The tactile sensor may be used to determine when pressure is applied to the shift knob of the shifter assembly and, when pressure is applied to the shift knob, vehicle operating parameters are monitored. A predicted gear selection is determined based on the monitored vehicle operating parameters. An operator gear selection is then determined based on the shift lever position sensor when the shift lever is moved. The operator gear selection is compared to the predicted gear selection and, when the predicted gear selection is the same as the operator gear selection, the manual transmission is shifted to the predicted gear selection.

  • Patent number: 8393240
Abstract: An instrumented control pedal for a vehicle includes a lever portion, a pedal portion, a position sensor and at least one pressure sensor. The lever portion may include a first end, a second end and a pivot point disposed proximate the second end. The pedal portion may be disposed proximate the first end of the lever portion and the at least one pressure sensor may be disposed on the pedal portion. The position sensor may be operable to detect the displacement of the instrumented control pedal about the pivot point and output a position signal indicating the displacement of the instrumented control pedal. When a pressure is applied to the pedal portion, the pressure sensor outputs a signal indicating pressure is being applied to the pedal portion.

  • Patent number: 8322247
Abstract: A shifter assembly for use in conjunction with an electronically shifted manual transmission of a vehicle includes a shift lever, a shift knob disposed on the shift lever, a guide and at least one shifter tactile sensor. The shift lever may be disposed in the guide and is operable to move relative to the guide. The guide includes a pattern of shift lever positions corresponding to specific gear ratios of the transmission of the vehicle. When the shift lever is positioned in a specific shift lever position, a corresponding gear ratio of the transmission may be selected. The at least one shifter tactile sensor may be disposed on the shift knob. When pressure is applied to the shift knob, the at least one shifter tactile sensor may output a tactile signal indicating that pressure is being applied to the shift knob.

  • Patent number: 7500418
Abstract: A torque setting lug nut wrench is provided. The torque setting lug nut wrench has a socket dimensioned to fit onto a lug nut of a motor vehicle wheel, a first section extending collinearly from the socket and a second section projecting from the first section. The second section, when grasped by a user, can apply a rotational force on a lug nut within the socket. A torque detection mechanism having a preset torque limit is included and provides a signal to the user applying the rotational force to the lug nut. In an embodiment of the present invention the torque detection mechanism has a single torque setting. In another embodiment, the torque detection mechanism has two torque settings.
