    Abstract: An example system includes a particle accelerator to produce a particle beam to treat a patient and a carrier having openings including a first opening and a second opening. The carrier is made of a material that inhibits transmission of the particle beam and the carrier is located between the particle accelerator and the patient. A control system is configured to control movement of the particle beam to the first opening to enable at least part of the particle beam to reach the patient, to change an energy of the particle beam while the particle beam remains stationary at the first opening, and to control movement of the particle beam from the first opening to the second opening. The example system also includes an energy degrader that includes at least some boron carbide.

    Abstract: Improved systematic inversion methodology applied to formation testing data interpretation with spherical, radial and/or cylindrical flow models is disclosed. A method of determining a flow line parameter includes determining a diverse set of flow models and selecting at least one flow model from the diverse set of flow models representative, at least in part, of a formation tester tool, at least one formation, at least one fluid, and at least one flow of the at least one fluid. The method further includes lowering the formation testing tool into the at least one formation to intersect with the formation at least one formation and sealing a probe of the formation tester placed in fluid communication with the at least one formation. The method further includes initiating flow from the at least one formation and utilizing the at least one selected flow model to predict the flow line parameter.

The downhole tool can include a fluid injector fluidly coupled to an output of the chamber. After the downhole tool is positioned at a location in the borehole where the stimulation fluid is to be injected into a subsurface formation surrounding the borehole, the at least one acid-container can be opened such that the stimulation fluid can flow from the output of the chamber to the fluid injector. The fluid injector can inject the stimulation fluid into the subsurface formation.

    Abstract: A method comprises flowing a mud into a wellbore, wherein the mud has a mud composition and has a weight in a defined range. The method includes introducing a fluid pill into the mud flowing into the wellbore, wherein the fluid pill has an injection fluid with an injection composition that is different from the mud composition. A particulate has been added to the injection fluid to increase the weight of the fluid pill to be in the defined range. After flowing the mud into the wellbore such that the fluid pill is positioned in a zone of the wellbore: filtering out the particulate from the injection fluid; injecting, after the filtering, the injection fluid into the zone; measuring a downhole parameter that changes in response to injecting the injection fluid into the zone; and determining a property of the formation of the zone based on the measured downhole parameter.

    Abstract: A pulse wave detection device detects the face from a frame image and corrects the brightness of the face in accordance with the size of the face surface to appropriately detect a pulse wave even if brightness is changed due to movement of a subject with respect to lighting. The brightness of the face depends on the distance between the lighting and the face, and this is equal to indirect measurement of the distance from the lighting to the face using the size of the face. As described above, a pulse wave detecting device estimates/measures a pulse rate of the subject from a brightness signal after intensity of the brightness of the face photographed on the frame image is corrected using the size of the face, by using the correlation between the size of the face of the subject on the frame image and the brightness of the face.
