Patent number: 9367956Abstract: A simulation application simulates a fluid flow. The simulation application divides a fluid into coarse volumetric elements (voxels) at a first resolution, and simulates the fluid flow at the first resolution. The simulation application defines a three-dimensional window that includes a portion of the coarse voxels. The simulation application divides each coarse voxel in the portion of the coarse voxels that lie within the three-dimensional window into a plurality of fine voxels at a second resolution. The simulation application simulates the fluid flow associated with each fine voxel in the plurality of fine voxels at the second resolution based at least in part on the simulation at the coarse resolution.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: PixarInventors: Michael K. O'Brien, Dave Hale, Ryan Kautzman, Jiayi Chong

Patent number: 9177419Abstract: A simulation application models a surface of a fluid in motion. The simulation application selects a mesh point from a plurality of mesh points that is associated with the surface of the fluid. The simulation application retrieves a first texture element from a set of uv texture maps, and attaches a first displacement value to the mesh point based on the first texture element. The simulation application advects the first displacement value over a first duration represented by a first quantity of image frames such that the first displacement value remains attached to the mesh point as the plurality of mesh points moves in response to a motion of the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: PIXARInventors: Michael K. O'Brien, Allen Hemberger

Publication number: 20030069423Abstract: Novel processes for the preparation of adenosine compounds and intermediates thereto. The adenosine compounds prepared by the present processes may be useful as cardiovascular agents, more particularly as antihypertensive and anti-ischemic agents, as cardioprotective agents which ameliorate ischemic injury or myocardial infarct size consequent to myocardial ischemia, and as an antilipolytic agents which reduce plasma lipid levels, serum triglyceride levels, and plasma cholesterol levels. The present processes may offer improved yields, purity, ease of preparation and/or isolation of intermediates and final product, and more industrially useful reaction conditions and workability.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2002Publication date: April 10, 2003Inventors: Timothy A. Patent number: 4454419Abstract: A snap-on unitary, one piece photo-optical item position sensor fabricated as a clothes-pin-like plastic member from a material which is substantially transparent to infra-red radiation obviating lenses. The sensor member is bifurcated at one end to form two parallel leg portions the outboard end of each one of which carries one element of the photo-optical sensing apparatus. The opposite end of the sensor member is rectangularly shaped and slotted on opposite parallel sides forming a polarized receptacle for a mating polarized plug as well as a handle for griping. Compression of the handle portion contacts the slotted end slightly while opening or spreading the two parallel leg portions enabling the sensor to be snapped over an orthogonally disposed item guide or track. Oppositely disposed parallel members on the lower portion of the track automatically position the sensor over the track.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1982Date of Patent: June 12, 1984Assignee: Burroughs CorporationInventors: Emmett B.
