    Abstract: A mobile communication device (100) is operable in several physical configurations (202, 204, 302, 304) and has a main antenna (108). A non-resonant load (124) is selectively coupled to the main antenna during transmit time slots (808) to change the operating resonance of the antenna and reduce the field strength produced by the antenna at one or more select locations of the mobile communication device.
