  • Publication number: 20240180608
Abstract: A surgical system includes a surgical instrument, a motion sensor, and a computing device. The surgical instrument includes a housing, an end effector assembly distally-spaced from the housing, and a movable component movable relative to the housing. The motion sensor is disposed on or within the housing and configured to sense a vibration signature associated with movement of the movable component relative to the housing. The computing device communicates with the motion sensor, is configured to receive the vibration signature therefrom, and is configured to determine a condition of the movable component based on the vibration signature. A method of monitoring a surgical instrument includes sensing a vibration signature generated from movement of a movable component of a surgical instrument relative to a housing of the surgical instrument, and determining, based on the sensed vibration signature, a condition of the movable component.

  • Publication number: 20240132578
Abstract: The invention provides a method for obtaining a broadly neutralizing antibody (bNab), including screening memory B cell cultures from a donor PBMC sample for neutralization activity against a plurality of HIV-1 species, cloning a memory B cell that exhibits broad neutralization activity; and rescuing a monoclonal antibody from that memory B cell culture. The resultant monoclonal antibodies may be characterized by their ability to selectively bind epitopes from the Env proteins in native or monomeric form, as well as to inhibit infection of HIV-1 species from a plurality of clades. Compositions containing human monoclonal anti-HIV antibodies used for prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection are provided. Methods for generating such antibodies by immunization using epitopes from conserved regions within the variable loops of gp120 are provided. Immunogens for generating anti-HIV1 bNAbs are also provided. Furthermore, methods for vaccination using suitable epitopes are provided.

  • Patent number: 7741552
Abstract: The present invention provides drumsticks for training percussionists to use proper form, which may increase learning speed and enable faster and more efficient drum strokes. Each drumstick includes a tip or bead with a wing extending therefrom. The wing extends beyond the width of the shaft of the drumstick so that the percussionist must strike the drum head with wing extending parallel to the drum head surface to achieve a proper and acceptable sound. A grip is also provided to properly orient the user's hands for the matched grip variation desired.

  • Publication number: 20080228116
Abstract: A support sling is provided. A partial sleeve component is provided and adapted to be secured to the upper/opposing upper arm/shoulder area of a user, the partial sleeve component including hook or a loop adhesive fabric. A shoulder strap is provided, the shoulder strap including a hook or a loop adhesive fabric. The shoulder strap is adapted to connect to a load. In one embodiment, the shoulder strap can be secured to an arm sling adapted to cradle an arm of a user. The combined arm sling and the shoulder strap is placed over the head of the user, with the user's arm being placed in the arm sling, with the hook or loop adhesive fabric of the shoulder strap being strategically adhered to the hook or loop adhesive fabric of the partial sleeve component in a position designed to place and hold the injured arm and/or shoulder in the appropriate position for optimum healing advantages and enhanced pain management/comfort.
