  • Publication number: 20120313751
Abstract: A system and method are provided for user-specific provision of at least one function to a user that has a mobile unit storing user data of the user, wherein the user data is transmitted via a background system to a controllable device that provides the functions to the particular user individually according to the transmitted user data of the user. The device may be suitable for a wide variety of application areas, in particular for vehicle units, production devices, media playback devices and devices that are made available to the user by a third party, for example, a rental car agency. The functions can be provided in a manner familiar to the user by a device made available to the user by a third party.

  • Publication number: 20020180698
Abstract: A device seeks to convert the natural motions of a human hand and fingers into characters on a compact portable electronic device. The handset arrangement allows data to be entered conveniently into a small telephone with the hand that is holding the handset and without necessitating the support of a surface or a second hand. Fine-grained position or pressure measurement devices are incorporated into at least one button, the presence of a user's finger and the degree of pressure applied by the user are mapped to particular data entry choices. The device thus provides a convenient alternative to a conventional keypad.

  • Publication number: 20020180708
Abstract: A method improves data entry in keypads, and a keypad system incorporates the method. To allow miniaturisation of handsets below the limit where accurate character selection could otherwise be assured, the method applies keys which are in fact multiple position switches. Each key on a keypad can be operated between any of three positions. Placing the key in an “up” position corresponds to a “default” or “cancel previous key press” action. Placing the key in the “intermediate” position corresponds to a user presentation mode whereby the display shows a group of possible data entry options. Placing the key in the “down” position corresponds to a selection mode whereby the display shows that a tentative data entry has been accepted by the user.

  • Patent number: 5706225
Abstract: A memory apparatus with dynamic memory cells that can be used both as a read-only memory and also as a volatile memory is provided. The memory apparatus has a capacitance value allocated to the capacitors present in the memory cells; the value is required for operation as a read-only memory. For read-only memory operation, memory cells are provided whose capacitors have different capacitance values corresponding to the type of information to be stored. A method of operating a memory apparatus is also provided. In the method, the information can be set by first charging all the memory cells and then applying a refresh signal to the memory cells with such a clock rate that the memory cells with the larger capacitance value do not discharge, but the memory cells with the smaller capacitance value discharge. In operation as a volatile memory, a refresh signal is applied to the memory cells in the standard way.
