  • Patent number: 4670496
Abstract: A coloring agent, preferably metallic particles, is disposed in a solution that contains unvulcanized diene rubber(s) and a rubber vulcanization accelerator. Crosslinkable silicone and/or modified EPDM may also be disposed in the solution. The coating material is substantially free of free sulfur, and preferably is also substantially free of carbon black. The accelerator scavenges sulfur from a vulcanized rubber substrate to auto-vulcanize the rubber solids, and any crosslinkable silicone and/or modified EPDM present. Coating materials that do not contain any coloring agent are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 19, 1986
Date of Patent: June 2, 1987
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
Inventors: Michael Kaniecki, Samuel P. Landers, Thomas J. Botzman
  • Patent number: 4535114
Abstract: Metallic particles are suspended in a solution that contains diene rubber solids and a sulfur rubber vulcanization accelerator dissolved therein. The coating material is substantially free of carbon black and free sulfur. The accelerator scavenges sulfur from an already vulcanized rubber substrate to autovulcanize the rubber solids and thereby secure the metallic particles in a coating on a rubber article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 20, 1984
Date of Patent: August 13, 1985
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
Inventors: Michael Kaniecki, Samuel P. Landers, Thomas J. Botzman
