  • Patent number: 7721205
Abstract: A graphical object is generated according to a first application in a document of a second application. The graphical object is constructed as a composite, data-driven object. The graphical object's data is organized so that the semantic data (e.g., relationship among individuals on an organizational chart) is persisted separately from presentation data (e.g., the layout and style of shapes and connectors for visualizing the organizational chart). The semantic data and presentation data are combined to provide the rendered view of the graphical object within the document. The graphical object displays and functions equivalently to when the graphical object is rendered by the first application.

  • Publication number: 20100018839
Abstract: In a device (4) for receiving a piece of baggage (2) for transport, for example at an airport, the device comprises a receiving room (18A) with an infeed opening and a discharge opening. The receiving room is provided with a closing assembly, the closing assembly comprising a closing mechanism (22, 24). The device furthermore comprises a conveyor unit (16, 20) for discharging the piece of baggage from the receiving room through the discharge opening. The closing assembly is equipped at any time to keep at least one or other of the infeed opening and the discharge opening closed. In this way a device according to the invention is equipped to protect deposited baggage from third parties and to prevent persons from following the piece of baggage to the areas not accessible to the public. The present invention also provides a method for receiving a piece of baggage, which method is in accordance with the functioning of the above-mentioned device.

  • Publication number: 20080147649
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods of retrieving the pages according to the quality of the individual pages. The rank of a page for a keyword is a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic ranks. Intrinsic rank is the measure of the relevancy of a page to a given keyword as claimed by the author of the page while extrinsic rank is a measure of the relevancy of a page on a given keyword as indicated by other pages. The former is obtained from the analysis of the keyword matching in various parts of the page while the latter is obtained from the context-sensitive connectivity analysis of the links connecting the entire Web. The present invention also provides the methods to solve the self-consistent equation satisfied by the page weights iteratively in a very efficient way. The ranking mechanism for multi-word query is also described. Finally, the present invention provides a method to obtain the more relevant page weights by dividing the entire hypertext pages into distinct number of groups.

  • Publication number: 20070093671
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel organic silane compound, and more particularly, to a novel organic silane compound, useful in various applications, for the purpose of improving the affinity of an organic resin to an inorganic filler or improving the adhesion of a coating layer comprising matrix resin to a substrate. It is particularly useful for improving the adhesion of a polarizing plate adhesive for a liquid crystal display to a glass substrate, with little change over time even under hot and humid conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070093577
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition, and more precisely, a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition containing an organic silane compound that exhibits excellent initial adhesive strength on a substrate, and does not leave any of the adhesive behind when removed because the adhesive power is not excessively increased even at high temperature or at high temperature and high humidity.

  • Publication number: 20070058882
Abstract: A method for applying localized image effects to digital images is provided. The method includes receiving a selection representing a location in proximity to a region in the digital image requiring one or more correction. The region requiring correction is processed by an image processing engine to determine the boundaries of the region. The image processing engine applies one or more image effects to the region and varies an intensity level associated with each image effect according to the number clicks received at the location in proximity to the region requiring the correction.

  • Publication number: 20060186751
Abstract: The invention involves a flywheel motor/generator having a holder to maintain the permanent magnets in a circular array on the rotor. Unique aspects of the invention include the magnet shapes that are used, the liner/retainer configuration used to secure the magnets, and the construction of the rotor in the immediate vicinity of the magnets. The principal functions of the design are 1) managing stresses in the rotor and the magnets at high speed when centrifugal acceleration can exceed 100,000 g's, and 2) securing the magnets when the assembly is at rest when magnets that are not properly secured can reposition themselves in deleterious ways through mutual attraction or repulsion. Keying features are also provided on the ends of the magnets to aid in assembly of the rotor and to maintain the magnets in the proper orientation.

  • Publication number: 20040213492
Abstract: Composite bearings and methods for manufacturing these bearings are provided in which a lining comprising polytetrafluoroethylene fiber and a second fiberous material are disposed within a polymeric matrix comprising polytetrafluoroethylene particles and a wetting agent. The composite bearings may be useful in hydropower applications where self-lubricating bearings containing graphite are undesirable because graphite can be corrosive to carbon steel.

  • Patent number: 6662231
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for providing audio service to a client through a communication network. A user subscribes to the service and the user's access to audio files is contingent upon authorization and validation. Once authorized, the user may access and stream out audio date files, or similar types of files, to the client device through the communication network. Metrics are maintained for the play-out of each audio file and payment may be allocated to an owner of rights in the audio file based on the play-out statistics. The user may maintain customized play lists on the server for playing out preselected audio files. A play list may be sent to another user. The server may also be configured to select audio files not previously selected by the user based on the user's past selection behavior or based on the user's stated preferences. The audio files identified by the server are then suggested to the user.

  • Patent number: 6298963
Abstract: The inventive passive damping system features the unique harmonization of: (i) a constrained-layer damping subsystem (wherein an elastomer serves as constrained damping material); (ii) an entrained damping subsystem (wherein a particulate serves as entrained damping material); and, (iii) a tuned damping subsystem (wherein modal properties of certain inventive components have been selectively varied in accordance with anticipated resonance frequencies). The invention's effectiveness is aggregative; the total loss factor for the inventive damping system equals the sum of the individual loss factors for the damping subsystems. Consequently, the invention affords a high loss factor in a broad frequency range. Especially in applications involving control of extremely high vibrations, the inventive damping methodology is more efficient and economical than are common damping methodologies.
