Publication number: 20240087273Abstract: A method of smoothing a surface mesh includes determining first angles between a first direction and vectors normal to a plurality of faces defined in the surface mesh, determining a set of artifact vertices by including a first vertex of the surface mesh in the set of artifact vertices responsive to the first angles associated with faces adjacent to the first vertex satisfying a first condition, calculating a weighted value for a second vertex of the surface mesh based on a distance from the second vertex to a nearest artifact vertex in the set of artifact vertices, and generating a smoothed surface mesh by using the weighted value in a smoothing algorithm applied to the surface mesh.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Applicant: MAKO Surgical Corp.Inventors: Sukhraj Singh, Nitish Puri, Michael Kohnen

Patent number: 11877901Abstract: The invention relates to a computer-implemented method for providing a template for a casting matrix configured for casting one or more artificial gingiva parts of a removable denture. The casting matrix comprises one or more recesses. Each of the recesses has a 3D geometric form, which is a negative of a 3D geometric form of a section of the removable denture with one of the artificial gingiva parts to be casted.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2021Date of Patent: January 23, 2024Assignee: EXOCAD GMBHInventor: Michael Kohnen

Patent number: 11861804Abstract: Methods and systems for selectively smoothing an input surface mesh based on identified staircase artifacts are disclosed. Staircase artifacts may be generated along any one of a surface mesh's coordinate vectors. Vertices in the surface mesh associated with the staircase artifact are identified by comparing normalized angles between normal vectors of a plurality of faces adjacent to a vertex and a reference vector. Multiple reference vectors are used to identify additional artifact vertices. Weighted values may be generated for each vertex of the surface mesh based on the vertex's proximity to an identified artifact vertex. Vertices of a surface mesh may be subjected to a modified smoothing algorithm using the weighted values. The modified smoothing algorithm removes staircase artifacts while better preserving model volume and small model features.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2020Date of Patent: January 2, 2024Assignee: MAKO Surgical Corp.Inventors: Sukhraj Singh, Nitish Puri, Michael Kohnen

Patent number: 11589180Abstract: The disclosure relates to an electronic apparatus, a control method thereof, and a recording medium. The electronic apparatus includes: a signal processor configured to process a sound signal; and a processor configured to acquire positional information of a speaker that outputs sound, based on the processed sound signal, and perform a first correction so that a sound image of the sound signal has a predetermined reference spatial acoustic characteristic based on the acquired positional information of the speaker, and perform a second correction so that the sound image of the sound signal on which the first correction is performed has a target spatial acoustic characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2019Date of Patent: February 21, 2023Assignee: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Hoseok Wey, Michael Kohnen, Min Kim

Patent number: 9788786Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for automatic detection of clinical relevance of images of an anatomical situation. The method includes comparing a first image and a second image and determining whether a difference between the first and second images is at least one of a local type difference and a global type difference. The local type difference is a local difference of the first image and the second image and the global type difference is a global difference between the first image and the second image. The second image is determined as having a clinical relevance if it is determined that the difference between the first image and the second image comprises a local type difference.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2011Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: Stryker European Holdings I, LLCInventors: Udo Pfrengle, Michael Kohnen, Arno Blau, Thomas Epting

Patent number: 9517107Abstract: A targeting system is used for positioning of a medical sub device with respect to a medical device. A reference body is reproducibly positioned with respect to a targeting device coupling section and reproducibly positioned with respect to a targeting unit. The targeting unit has a targeting direction and is adjustable with respect to the targeting device so that the targeting direction points toward a medical sub device receptacle of the medical device coupled to the targeting device coupling section. The imaging system is positionable with respect to the targeting device such that the imaging system is capable of imaging a single two-dimensional view of the reference body and the medical sub device receptacle. The evaluation unit generates position data of the single two-dimensional view and to determine from the position data a lateral distance between the targeting direction and a receiving direction of the medical sub device receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2010Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Stryker European Holdings I, LLCInventors: Arno Blau, Bernd Simon, Michael Kohnen
