  • Patent number: 6027570
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for cleaning optical surfaces, such as those in a urine analyzer, which surfaces come into repeated contact with urine test samples. The method involves contacting the optical surfaces with an aqueous solution of a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salt, a non-ionic surfactant and a divalent ion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 18, 1998
Date of Patent: February 22, 2000
    Assignee: Bayer Corporation
Inventors: Jennifer Farr, Michael L. Bloczynski, James P. Albarella
  • Patent number: 5631371
Abstract: The present invention involves a method for the preparation of substituted 3-(phenylimino)-3 H-phenothiazines or phenoxazines which method involves reacting phenothiazine or phenoxazine with an aromatic amine in the presence of periodic acid as coupling agent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 22, 1995
Date of Patent: May 20, 1997
    Assignee: Bayer Corporation
    Inventor: Michael L. Bloczynski
  • Patent number: 5520786
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved electrode suitable for the electrochemical regeneration of the co-enzymes NADH and NADPH. The electrode has imparted on its surface a mediator function which is a 3-phenylimino-3H-phenothiazine or a 3-phenylimino-3H-phenoxazine. Also disclosed is a method of improving the performance of a biochemical fuel cell which operates with a dehydrogenase as a catalyst and a co-enzyme as the energy-transferring redox couple which involves using the improved electrode in the fuel cell.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1995
Date of Patent: May 28, 1996
    Assignee: Bayer Corporation

  • Patent number: 5310888
Abstract: Disclosed are arylazo chromoionophores characterized by the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen or a monovalent cation, Y is H or methoxy and R is a ringed aromatic organic structure which affects the optical absorption properties of the compounds. Also disclosed is a method for the detection of calcium ion using these compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 22, 1992
Date of Patent: May 10, 1994
    Assignee: Miles Inc.
