Publication number: 20260123582Abstract: A sugarcane harvester includes a cutter assembly for cutting stalks of the sugarcane as the harvester moves through a field. A chopper assembly is provided for chopping the cut sugarcane stalks into billets and crop residue. A primary extractor is provided for cleaning the billets and extracting the crop residue. A loading elevator transports the cleaned billets to a discharge location. At least one moisture sensor is configured to sense a moisture content of the billets as the billets move through the sugarcane harvester, the at least one moisture sensor being configured to generate a moisture content signal representative of the moisture content. A controller is functionally linked with the sensor for receiving the moisture content signal, the controller being configured to generate an output signal based at least in part on the moisture content signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2024Publication date: May 7, 2026Inventors: Michael L. Halbrook, Kerry J. Morvant

Publication number: 20250386767Abstract: A buttlifter assembly for a sugarcane harvester includes an input that is rotatable about a central buttlifter axis. A paddle includes a first end and a second end, and extends therebetween along a central paddle axis. The paddle is operable to lift cut sugarcane stalks upward away from a ground surface and into a feed section of the sugarcane harvester. The buttlifter assembly includes a synchronizer assembly interconnecting the input and the paddle. The synchronizer assembly is configured for simultaneously rotating the paddle about the central paddle axis and the central buttlifter axis in response to the input rotating about the central buttlifter axis, whereby an orientation of the paddle relative to a vertical axis may be maintained during a lower half of a rotation cycle of the paddle about the central buttlifter axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2024Publication date: December 25, 2025Inventor: Michael L. Halbrook

Publication number: 20250228160Abstract: A sugarcane harvester includes an extractor system having a housing defining an interior passage leading to an exhaust outlet. A fan assembly is positioned within the interior passage for inducing a flow of air across a flow of sugarcane billets and through the interior passage for extracting leaf residue. A constituent sensor is positioned to detect data related to a sugar content of the extracted material, including the leaf residue, moving through the interior passage of the housing. A controller may determine a current sugar content of the extracted material passing through the interior passage of the housing from data sensed by the constituent sensor, and determine that the extracted material passing through the housing includes sugarcane billets when the current sugar content is greater than a trash sugar content threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2024Publication date: July 17, 2025Inventors: Michael L. Halbrook, Jason C. Buss, John A. Dighton, Justin J. Morgan

Patent number: 11737391Abstract: A chopper system for a sugarcane harvester comprises a chopper and a timing-adjustment tool. The chopper comprises a first chopper drum mounted for rotation about a first axis of rotation and comprising blades, a second chopper drum mounted for rotation about a second axis of rotation and comprising blades that cooperate with the blades of the first chopper drum to sever sugarcane stalks into billets upon rotation of the first and second chopper drums respectively about the first and second axes of rotation, and a gearbox that coordinates rotation of the first and second chopper drums relative to one another to establish a timing of operation between the blades of the first and second chopper drums. The timing-adjustment tool removably mounts to the chopper to adjust the timing of operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2020Date of Patent: August 29, 2023Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Guy Burch, Michael L.
