The method may include receiving a plurality of bids from a plurality of online bidding communities during a live auction event at one of a primary technology provider and a relying technology provider, wherein the live auction event simultaneously occurs on a physical auction floor and virtually. The method may also include processing the plurality of bids at the primary technology provider. The method may further include providing the processed plurality of bids to a single designated clerking console associated with the primary technology provider for the live auction event. The method may also include receiving an accepted bid from the single designated clerking console.

Abstract: A pet monitoring device is disclosed that's wearable by a pet for recording and communicating the pet's movements within an environment in which radio frequency identifier (RFID) tags have been strategically placed. The device includes: a transmitter configured to send a radio signal to an area surrounding a pet's location; a receiver configured to receive a reflected radio signal from an RFID tag within the area; a processor configured to identify the RFID tag of the reflected radio signal; and a database in which the processor stores times and locations of identified RFID tags in the environment such that the times and locations are indicative of behavior of the pet in the environment. The device can be used for behavioral analysis, tracking key indicators related to the well-being of the pet, such as when a pet eats and drinks water, and how the pet behaves during recovery from an injury.

A free-space optical train provides optical paths for routing the spectral bands between the input fiber and the output fibers. The optical routing mechanism has multiple configurable routing elements to determine how each spectral band is directed. A common surface integrally mates the optical routing mechanism with end portions of the input and output fibers, permitting effective planarization of some optical elements.

Abstract: A method of operating a pulverized coal-firing furnace so as to achieve no more than a predetermined variation in the instantaneous vertical velocities of the flow exiting a combustion chamber of the furnace is provided. The method includes, in one variation thereof, providing a series of lower compartments for introducing therethrough one of air, fuel, and air and fuel into the combustion chamber. At least one upper compartment is disposed above the topmost compartment of the series of lower compartments at a relative disposition to the topmost compartment in a spacing range between a contiguous disposition to a more spaced disposition which is no more than twice the average spacing between any given compartment and an adjacent compartment.

Abstract: A method of operating a pulverized coal-firing furnace is provided which includes injecting air from an upper compartment generally in opposition to a swirling fireball. The method also provides the step of sensing a temperature characteristic of one side of a convection pass of the furnace. The sensed value, in accordance with the method of the present invention, is then evaluated to determine if the sensed value of the temperature characteristic exceeds an allowable value. In response to a determination that the temperature characteristic exceeds the allowable value, the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment is changed. After the step of changing the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment, the temperature characteristic of the one convection pass location is sensed to obtain a post adjustment value of the temperature characteristic and compared to an allowable value.

Abstract: A vertically elongated column, either square or round in cross section, is covered by tightly wound rope which is wound in a helix around the column and is affixed thereto by glue and recessed nails. The column extends upwardly from a horizontal base. The rope is densely wrapped around the column so that none of the column surface is visible between adjacent loops of the rope.
